Ever since her breakout role in “The Witch,” Anya Taylor-Joy has really come into her own as an actress in films like “Split” (less so in “Glass,” but that has little to do with her acting) and “Thoroughbreds.” Now, she finds herself with plenty of opportunities, and Taylor-Joy seems to be making all the right choices.
THR is reporting that the young actress is teaming up with the mastermind behind the Netflix series “Godless,” Scott Frank, for a new limited series on the streaming service titled “The Queen’s Gambit.” The series, based on the novel of the same name by author Walter Tevis, follows Beth Harmon, a young woman coming-of-age and experiencing life’s hardships on her quest to become the world’s best chess player.

As mentioned, Taylor-Joy has been attached to a variety of great projects lately, with a stint on “Peaky Blinders” coming up, along with the films “Radioactive,” “Last Night in Soho” (from director Edgar Wright), and another Netflix series “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.” She’s also set to star in the upcoming “X-Men” spin-off film, “The New Mutants,” but that film has gone through all sorts of issues, and may or may not be sent to Hulu by Disney.
However, the fun isn’t stopping there with Taylor-Joy. According to an Instagram post from photographer-turned-filmmaker Autumn de Wilde, the actress will star in the director’s upcoming adaptation of the Jane Austen classic “Emma.” There’s no release date set but filming has just begun on the project, and will likely make an appearance in 2020 courtesy of Focus Features.
