‘Antlers’ Trailer: Scott Cooper’s Terrifying Horror Finds Cannibals Terrorizing A Small Town

It looks to be one of the scariest films of the next year, and it’s not hard to see why as cannibals seem to terrorize a small town in Oregon in “Antlers.” The project was directed by actor turned director Scott Cooper, whose previous work includes “Hostiles” and “Black Mass.” There is a producer role for a veteran in the film industry, Guillermo del Toro, who has been a part of great films like the Oscar-winning “Pan’s Labyrinth” and “The Shape Of Water.”

The Mexican filmmaker in the past has said he does not want to work with any superhero films that don’t involve monsters. However, this chilling film looks right up del Toro’s ally, with monsters plenty eating their way through the town. While a film with del Toro connected is always going to be a win for any filmgoer.

Speaking to Collider last year, Cooper spoke about how del Toro became interested in him doing a horror film. He said, “[Guillermo] said I’ve obviously never seen you direct a horror film, but there’s a lot of horrific moments in your movies, so I’m more interested in someone who doesn’t work in that genre to step into it.”

He also spoke of how supportive del Toro has been on the project. Saying, “[Guillermo is] fantastic and so supportive and wildly imaginative, so it’s really been a great collaboration. I’m very fortunate that he asked me to do this.”

The teaser showcased previously had everything that makes a good horror to get you excited, including a young child’s narration (Jeremy T. Thomas), half-eaten bodies, and blood-curdling screams to whet the appetite when the film hits cinemas next year.

The film will feature Keri Russell (“Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes”), who was the first to be cast as the school teacher who is dragged into this mess by Thomas’s character. There is also a role for Jesse Plemons, who has previously worked with Cooper on “Black Mass,” while Graham Greene (“The Green Mile”), Scott Haze (“Venom”), and Rory Cochrane (“Argo”) will also star.

Here’s the synopsis:

A small-town Oregon teacher and her brother, the local sheriff, become entwined with a young student harboring a dangerous secret with frightening consequences.

“Antlers” is now set for an April 17, 2020 release. You can watch the new trailer below.
