Got a Tip?

Anthony Ramos To Star In Steven Caple, Jr’s Upcoming ‘Transformers’ Film

After five films from Michael Bay and one from Travis Knight, featuring leads like Shia LaBeouf, Mark Wahlberg, and Hailee Steinfeld, it’s clear that the “Transformers” universe could use some, uh, diversity. Well, we’ve already seen Paramount and Hasbro take the first steps with hiring filmmakers Steven Caple, Jr. and Angel Manuel Soto to helm new films in the universe. And now, as Caple, Jr.’s film inches closer to production, we are seeing who will lead the next cast in the “Transformers” universe, and it’s another example of the franchise becoming more diverse.

According to THR, rising star Anthony Ramos has been tapped to star in the upcoming, untitled “Transformers” sequel from filmmaker Steven Caple, Jr. The film is expected to be the next in the film series that began with Michael Bay’s film in 2005 and most recently continued with Travis Knight’s “Bumblebee” in 2018. No plot details have been released at this time, but it’s safe to say that it will include lots of robots and explosions.

Ramos is probably best known for his role in the award-winning, record-breaking Broadway production, “Hamilton.” However, in recent years, he’s also been in a number of big films including “A Star is Born,” “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” and “Honest Thief.” His next role is as the star of the upcoming musical film, “In the Heights” by filmmaker Jon M. Chu.

As mentioned, the new film comes from Caple, Jr, who is the filmmaker that had his breakout gig with the blockbuster sequel, “Creed II.” Previous to that, he helmed the feature “The Land,” as well as an episode of “Grown-ish.”

The next “Transformers” film is expected to serve as the introduction to the next step in the franchise after Michael Bay’s film series began to sink quickly. It’s unclear how this film will differ from previous iterations, but it’s clear that whatever Bay was doing just wasn’t working. Hopefully, a jolt from Ramos and Caple, Jr. is exactly what the franchise needs.
