It's been seven years since Anthony Mackie and Jeffrey Wright rubbed elbows in "The Manchurian Candidate" remake, and any reason to bring these fave actors of ours back together is something we'll pay attention to. And lo and behold, an indie film has started shooting today pairing them up, along with a couple of rising singers-turned-actresses.
Mackie and Wright, along with Jordin Sparks and Jennifer Hudson, will star in "The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete." Penned by Michael Starrbury, and directed by George Tillman Jr. ("Notorious," "Faster," "Soul Food"), the film follows two inner city youths are who are left to take care of themselves for the summer when their mothers are taken away by the authorities. No word on who plays the young kids, or even what the role of these actors will be in the picture.
While Tillman Jr. has been somewhat of an underwhelming helmer thus far — none of his efforts have been particularly memorable — he's got some good talent here, and a story that is certainly intriguing, we'll be giving this one a shot when it rolls out down the line. Lensing is underway in Brooklyn. [Deadline]
