So is Lynn Shelton having her Joe Swanberg moment? The mumblecore director recently pivoted toward the mainstream with “Drinking Buddies” starring Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson, Anna Kendrick and more, and while Shelton last delivered “Your Sister’s Sister” featuring Emily Blunt and Rosemarie DeWitt and “Touchy Feely” with DeWitt and Ellen Page, her latest lines up an Oscar winner, a rising young actress and more, and could definitely be a project that will help her reach her widest audience yet.
Anne Hathaway, Chloe Moretz, Sam Rockwell and Mark Webber are all in talk to join “Laggies,” which superfans might know has been percolating for a while. Shelton first became attached to the movie back in 2011, and it was still kicking around last year with Paul Rudd said to be attached, though it looks like he’s no longer involved. The Andrea Seigel-scripted relationship tale will follow the story of a woman — described as a 28-year-old living in permanent adolescence, eschewing adulthood and its rules — who responds to her boyfriend’s marriage proposal by pretending to go on a retreat, but spends a week hanging out with some new high-school age friends instead. Hathaway will take the lead role of Megan, with Moretz as the teenage Annika, and Webber as the boyfriend left hanging. Meanwhile, Rockwell will play Craig, though it’s not clear how he factors in.
No word yet on when it might lens, but presumably very soon if the cast is now shaping up. We have to say, it sounds pretty promising and we like all involved, so by this time next year we presume we’ll be looking for it on the festival circuit if it isn’t already there. [Deadline]
just dissapointed chloe moretz is going to be in this, its obvious shes more interested in being a celebrity and being on magazine covers and at fashion shows then being in movies.
Sounds like The Lifeguard
Nooo I thought Hathaway would disappear for awhile. But at least two insufferable people will be in the same film- so we can avoid it entirely! (Moretz and Hathaway)
Seattle!
