Got a Tip?

Angelina Jolie’s ‘In The Land Of Blood And Honey’ Will Be Released In Serbian-Croatian Language Version

nullYep, you're gonna have to read. But if that's a problem for you, then perhaps you can't quite call yourself a movie fan.

While production was completed both in English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (or BCH as its known) versions, Jolie is opting for the latter for the film's stateside release. Deadline reports that FilmDistrict will drop the movie in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on the previously announced December 23rd release date, and all you Academy voting grandpas are gonna have to bring your reading glasses. Jolie had apparently screened both versions for FilmDistrict honchos Peter Schlessel and Bob Berney and everyone agreed the original language version was the way to go on this one.

Starring Zana Marjanović (”Snow”), Rade Šerbedžija (”Snatch”) and Goran Kostic (”Taken”), the film is a romantic drama about the troubled relationship between a Muslim woman and a Serbian man in the midst of the Bosnian war. The first trailer for the movie was surprisingly powerful, proving that Jolie has some considerable chops behind the camera. The film is still an unknown quotient in the Oscar race, but screenings for critics are already happening to a groundswell in some direction — either positive, negative or maybe not at all — should be taking shape soon.

As for the English language version, it won't be tossed out, but instead will be available possibly in future VOD or DVD releases. No word yet on the wide release date, but until then here's a larger version of a new image from the film that premiered on EW.

  1. Serbian-Croatian Language Version?? Shame!!!!
And the movie is about Bosnia and is going to be released on Croatian and Serbian language?
    So Bosnian language doesn’t exist?
I would not watch this movie there is no money in the world! Shame, shame, shame!
Plus Angelina has decency to say on 60 minutes not to look it this movie as documentary look it as love story. It's nice to say for you but people who lost family members and women who were raped it's not easy. But thanks to Bosnian government you were banned for filming there.

  2. so sick of this james braddock aka josip knezevic claiming that jolie stole her ideas from his book. so how come there is another book published way ahead of your supposed opus titled shattering of the soul and was released by the simon wisenthal foundation. stop being such a jerk posting your false claim wherever there is an article about angie's film. also, how come you don't use your real name and instead opted to use names of famous athletes? not everyone is stupid you idiot, james j. braddock (cinderella man) and josip knezevic should sue you for defaming their names. go back to the caves you twit

Did Angelina Jolie use (steal) this book (The Soul Shattering in English) written by the Bosnian-Croatian author James J. Braddock a.k.a Josip J. Knežević, as the story platform for her movie In The Land of Blood and Honey?

Did she totally miss the truth and core of that genocidal war against Bosnia and her people?

Why was she banned from filming in Bosnia by the most influental organization of women – victims of the war?

Did she rewrite history and offended thousands of women and other innocent victims of the Serbian aggression on Bosnia & Herzegovina?

Should American women and human rights organizations get involved?

  4. This is probably the first time anyone spelled Rade Šerbedžija last name with proper letters ( š and ž ), lol so cool ! Usually he's just Serbedzija or even Sherbedzija.. As for the film, original language is a much better option, the whole deal looks more natural.

  5. If its in a foreign language and subtitled, can it still qualify for the Oscars? I am guessing it can't qualify for a foreign language Oscar since there's an English version. Don't recall if there was any other Oscar hopeful in a similar situation.
