Got a Tip?

Angela Lansbury Confirmed For Wes Anderson’s ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’

nullIt seems what Wes Anderson wants, Wes Anderson gets. Earlier this summer, with "Moonrise Kingdom" doing solid business in theaters, the writer/director started putting the pieces together for his next film, "The Grand Budapest Hotel," eyeing Johnny Deep, Jude Law and Angela Lansbury as potential players alongside his usual roster of actors such as Bill Murray, who recently confirmed he'll be taking part. Depp and Law are both on board, and another wish is coming true for Anderson.

Bona fide legend and the always excellent Angela Lansbury has revealed she too will be featuring in the film. “I’m playing woman of mystery, it’s minuscule role. I’m on the screen probably for less than 5 minutes,” the "Murder, She Wrote" star told U.K. magazine The Gentle Woman (via The Film Stage).

Details are still under wraps about the movie, the only information at the moment being that it's a Euro-based tale (as shooting in Germany and the title would suggest), with one character being a psychic medium. But Depp + Law + Murray + Lansbury? Damn, Anderson could stop there and we'd be ready to buy a ticket. "Moonrise Kingdom" team Scott Rudin and American Paintbrush are behind this one as well. Could we see back-to-back movies from Anderson? Fingers crossed.

  1. "Could we see back-to-back movies from Anderson?" Seeing as how he has been making movies back-to-back since 1996, chances are good he will continue to do so. Might you have meant back-to-back hit movies?

  2. I am very sorry to inform that Budapest is the capital of Hungary. Moreover, the city has never been part of Germany. Please, for the sake of The Playlist's geographical knowledge, correct this intolerable error. Thank you.

  3. If all of the mentioned cast members will come on board they'll have 15 Oscar nominations and 1 win combined: Angela Lansbury (3 noms), Johnny Deep (3 noms), Jude Law (2 noms), Willem Dafoe (2 noms), Edward Norton (2 noms), Owen Wilson (1 nom), Bill Murray (1 nom), Jeff Goldblum (1 nom) and Adrien Brody (1 win).

  4. Miss Lansbury is a true legend and one of the greatest, if not the greatest, actresses of her time. Great too see her working with such a visionary filmmaker like Wes Anderson, although it's too bad her role is just a cameo. She's the queen of Broadway with every producer dreaming of getting her in his play. Why no one would give her a great film role is beyond my understanding.
