Got a Tip?

Andy Serkis Has A Non-Spider-Man Story In Mind For The Next ‘Venom’ Sequel

While film fans probably know Andy Serkis best for his motion-capture acting work in the “Lord of the Rings” and “Planet of the Apes” franchises, right now he’s out there promoting his filmmaking career as the director of the new film, “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.” And though he probably has some acting roles in the future, the question now is whether or not he’d be willing to come back to do another ‘Venom’ film if this current sequel is the runaway hit that people expect it to be?

During an interview with ScreenRant, filmmaker Andy Serkis was asked if he’d like to return for another entry in the ‘Venom’ franchise after helming the new ‘Let There Be Carnage.’ And rather unsurprisingly, it appears Serkis is down for coming back again.

“Oh, for sure, without question,” he said. “It’s just been one of those joyful jobs where, like I said, just working with great talent, working with amazing ideas.”

And if he returns for a “Venom 3,” he knows the direction he’d like to go in, as well. And sorry fans, it doesn’t appear that Spider-Man factors into that story right now.

“I know everyone is desperate for Venom to meet Spider-Man. I know that,” said Serkis. “But I think there’s real mileage in some of the other supervillains that reside in Ravencroft. There’s such fertile ground to be uncovered there. That would be the sandbox I’d be really interested in playing. Who’s lurking in there that could break out?”

Obviously, the big fan hope is that the “Venom” franchise will one day link up with “Spider-Man,” giving us a chance to see Tom Hardy trade blows with Tom Holland. However, with the murky rights situation surrounding “Spider-Man,” where he’s currently under the control of Sony but currently, in a bunch of films produced by Marvel Studios, it’s unclear whether or not a “Spider-Man” crossover in the “Venom”-verse is happening anytime soon.

And Serkis isn’t wrong with talking about Ravencroft as a hotbed of potential story ideas. In the comics, Ravencroft is a sort of Arkham Asylum-esque place that houses tons of interesting villains, who could make for fun trouble for Eddie Brock and Venom. So, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens with ‘Let There Be Carnage,” which arrives this week, and then we can talk about a potential third film.
