Got a Tip?

‘Fleabag’s Hot Priest To Star In Steve Zaillian-Led Showtime Series ‘Ripley’ Based On Patricia Highsmith’s Novels

Fresh off his star-making turn in the newest season of “Fleabag,” actor Andrew Scott is ready to turn in his priest vestments for something a bit more sociopathic.

According to THR, Scott has signed on to star in the upcoming TV series, “Ripley,” based on the best-selling series of novels by author Patricia Highsmith. As the name suggests, Scott will play Tom Ripley, the character that has been made famous by the aforementioned novels, as well as the film “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” which starred Matt Damon in the role.

“Ripley” is an eight-episode series that will debut on Showtime, written and directed by Steve Zaillian. The series takes place in the 1960s and follows Ripley as he’s hired by a wealthy man to locate and retrieve his vagabond son from Italy. Of course, considering the fact that this is a series about Tom Ripley, you can imagine that there’ll be plenty of criminal activity to be found, including murder.

Showtime president of entertainment Gary Levine said, “We are so thrilled to have the supremely talented filmmaker, Steve Zaillian, adapt the singular saga of Tom Ripley from Patricia Highsmith’s novels as an ongoing series for Showtime. With Andrew Scott, whose charisma knows no bounds, inhabiting the iconic lead role, we feel confident that this will be a special one.”

As mentioned, Scott is probably best known for his recent performance on “Fleabag,” where his “hot priest” character became a fan-favorite. However, previous to that, he was also seen in the series “Sherlock.” Upcoming, he has projects such as Sam Mendes’ “1917,” and the Amazon anthology series “Modern Love.”

There’s no release date for “Ripley.”
