After shacking up with Batman’s brother in “The Fighter,” Amy Adams is set to become Superman’s dame. According to the L.A. Times, Zack Snyder has found his Lois Lane for the upcoming “Superman” project slated for a late 2012 release, and it’s Oscar nominee Adams, who will step into the iconic workaholic high heels. If the rumors are to be believed (and not all of them are), Adams beat out less-pedigreed competition in Kristen Stewart, Jessica Biel, Rachel McAdams, Malin Ackerman, Dianna Agron, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, Mila Kunis, Lindsay Lohan, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, Abe Vigoda, Bristol Palin, Justin Bartha, Elizabeth Bathory, Ms. Pac-Man… rumors are rumors, we suppose.
Adams is being brought aboard as “a linchpin” to the project according to Snyder, with the intent to keep Lane contemporary and fresh. “There was a big, giant search for Lois,” Snyder says, neither confirming or denying negotiations with Abe Vigoda had stalled. “For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”
After a brief departure in “Superman Returns,” where Kate Bosworth was 23 to Brandon Routh‘s 26 years old, they are returning to the popular dynamic of Lane being a smidgen older (and, likely, more professional) than Clark Kent, as Adams, 36, is paired with an actor, Henry Cavill, nearly a decade younger. Rowr. Adams follows in the footsteps of actresses like Bosworth, Margot Kidder, Erica Durance, Teri Hatcher and, apparently, Uma Thurman, who plays a “Lois Lane” in the star-studded upcoming comedy anthology “Movie 43.”
Adams, who can be seen next in “On The Road” and “The Muppets,” joins a production that includes Cavill, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner, though she is unquestionably the biggest name currently involved. Could the pieces now start to fall into place for a production gearing to start up soon? Stay tuned. The currently untitled “Superman” is scheduled for release in December, 2012.
how many years old are you
I was holding out for Rosario Dawson. She\’d have been amazing and really added something more interesting to the part. Amy Adams seems a bit too old and just not right for this role.
She has zero sex appeal. I wish they\’d gone with an unknown actress.
If she stays a ginger we can all have fun screaming \”LANA LANG!\” every time she shows up on screen.
I can get behind this choice. Good work Snyder.
Gabe, Natalie Portman ( Oscar winner ) & Anne Hathaway ( Oscar nominee) are both Amy Adams\’ equal – not less-pedigreed competition .
It has long been rumored that Hathaway was offered Lois Lane first, but she turned it down , to do \’ Dark Knight Rises \’. That was a smart move on Anne\’s part .
Why would Oscar nominee Adams want to be tied down ( for many years ) to a fluffy, one- dimensional comic book role , that will not have any huge impact to her film career ( only her bank account ) ? It didn\’t help Margaret Kidder\’s movie career. And, why would anyone want to work with the hack , Zack Synder ?
Shit…. I really didn\’t want to see Zack Snyder\’s Superman but I\’m such a fan of Amy Adams (is it possible for an actress to be too awesome?) that I kinda have to go.
Though it does seem like odd casting.
Amy Adams is versatile and amazing. I just hope Snyder keeps her a ginger. Who cares if Lois has a different hair color than the traditional comic? She looks better and more natural as a redhead so she should just keep it that way.
adams is a good actress but all studio action movies should be cast by michael bay. snyder, nolan, singer…their female casting is just not cutting it for me.
love adams..but she seems wrong for lois lane
Tha casting will be quicky forgotten if the film is bad. My enthusiasm is tempered. Hopefully the script is solid. Snyder said it will be his most realistic film so far, which is good to hear. If the film is good I could see it being a solid hit. Maybe second only to the Hobbit for the Dec. 2012 holiday season.
People need to chill, no one is \”diminishing\” Rachel McAdams (if anything, The Playlist seem to be one of her biggest fans 😉 or making use of too much sarcasm in this post.
Happy to see Amy Adams get this highly coveted role. Zack Snyder is probably going to be the limiting factor of how good this movie will be though.
This casting rules. So far, so good on Superman at least with the talent. Don\’t fuck it up Snyder.
Love her. Having a hard time picturing her as a brunette.
Um, have you even seen On the Road Jimmescoffee?
\’on the road\’ looks terrible.
or 25
after \’sucker punch\’ i really hope nolan is the brains and muscle behind this thing.
Amy Adams is a bigger name than Kevin Costner. If you\’re 12.
Is this WB\’s \”Keep the Faith\” announcement after this past weekend? Interesting timing to say the least. Adams is a teffific actress, but no need to diminish McAdams as lesser pdigree because she hasn\’t been nominated for a facile academy award. Please. This film will be dtermined by it\’s script more then anything.
Fresh and contemporary?? Please Snyder, you cast her because she\’s a hot name at the moment. At least be honest about it. She is a very good actress and should do well in the part. I think this film could be a hit if it\’s approached correctly.
Amy Adams has been nominated for 3 Academy Awards already. Biggest name for the leads? Sure/ Costner\’s role is gonna be a small supporting role.
What does age have to do with anything? This is Hollywood. Also I though this post was overly sarcastic.
Amy Adams is a bigger name than Kevin Costner?
I pointed the age thing out because Lane is supposed to be older and more mature than Clark. Also, it\’s HOT.
Did anyone have a problem with Amy Adams and Mark Wahlberg in the Fighter?
Pretty sure Micky Ward was in his late 30\’s when he had his first boxing match. Mention of her age is embarrassing.
Really loathe that we mentioned the age thing. You can\’t tell, end of story. Now all we\’re gonna hear is stupid Cougar Town comments which is what Twitter is already full of lame.
The fact that a 36-year old Amy Adams is too old to play a younger Lois Lane (she doesn\’t look older than 30) is insane.
Liam Neeson (almost 60) is playing action heros, Brad Pitt, Clooney, Damon and Affleck either near 40 and well into their 40\’s and still playing much younger characters. Most character\’s ages in movies are never give, and even as a guy I have to say this is pretty sexist to even imply.
Did anyone see \”The Town\” and think of a 38 year old affleck putting the moves on a 26 year old rebecca hall? I mean, Jeremy Renner is in his early 40s. I\’m sorry, those characters were not meant to be that age but because this is hollywood, and the guys look young, we buy them as young. How on earth can it be hard to buy Amy Adams and Cavill as being close in age?
good on you, Snyder. very good choice.
yeyy!! I\’m so happy! I think she has everything to nail it. I\’m watching a movie with her right now, and she is always so great.
She just doesn\’t……….fit.
