Got a Tip?

‘The Americans’ Will End After Season 6 In 2018

All things must come to an end, even acclaimed television dramas, but its not often that a show gets a good amount of advance warning to allow the creators to craft an end game. But FX is making sure that “The Americans” will get the final bow it deserves.

The network has ordered up twenty-three more episodes of the show, for what will be a thirteen-episode season five in 2017, and ten-episode season six in 2018, after which there will be no more. But still, that gives creators and showrunners Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields twenty-three hours of narrative to play with, allowing them to hopefully come to a conclusion to please the longtime fans who have been with the show since day one. And for the rest of us, there’s plenty of time to catch up with the series, so we can follow along as it wraps up.

Of course, no one is hinting about what’s next for Keri Russell‘s Elizabeth Jennings, but we’re sure that there’s plenty that devotees would like to see unfold. If you’re one of them, let us know your thoughts in the comments section. [Vulture]

  1. Much like Justified it’s good to know it will end before it overstays its welcome. Which is not to imply it’s a boring series, far from it.

That said, I’ve always pictured its end as being where one of the Jennings kids (Paige, most likely) is shown in college (or a similar venue) recounting the life of her parents to people eager/willing to listen. It may not be the most riveting way to end a series but it seems like it would punctuate the overall story so well.
