Got a Tip?

‘American Ultra’ With Kristen Stewart Hits This August, ‘La La Land’ With Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone Coming Summer 2016

American UltraLionsgate has announced a slew of new release dates and release changes this afternoon. Perhaps the most surprising, coming out of nowhere is the anticipated indie “American Ultra” starring Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Walton Goggins, Connie Britton, Bill Pullman, Topher Grace, and Tony Hale. Directed by Nima Nourizadeh and written by Max Landis, the movie was thought maybe to debut at a film festival sometime this or next year, but Lionsgate has decided to release the film later this summer on August 21st.

Here’s the official synopsis and note, it’s being described as an action comedy: A stoner and his girlfriend’s sleepy, small-town existence is disrupted when his past comes back to haunt him in the form of a government operation set to wipe him out.

Also exciting is the news that Damien Chazelle’s next picture will be a musical called “La La Land” starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. It’s now set for July 15, 2016 in wide release. Here’s the synopsis: From Summit Entertainment. In this modern take on the Hollywood musical from Damien Chazelle, the Academy Award-nominated writer and director of WHIPLASH, Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and Mia (Emma Stone) are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love. But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart.

  1. Ignore Jet and Raine (same person) — that\’s @Truthy_1 on Twitter, she haunts every article on the internet concerning Kristen Stewart. Look what she did, she went so far as to obtain the script, which leaked months ago, and was so sweet as to completely blow a major plot twist! Isn\’t she just a darling?? That should tell you enough of where she is coming from. You can see her spewing vile bitterness on her twitter account every single day. She is obsessed with Stewart. And completely wrong — she also said that Kristen Stewart was nothing in Clouds of Sils Maria and was just a piece of furniture for Juliette Binoche to talk to. For MONTHS she said this in every comment section mentioning Stewart. And we all know how that turned out! The poster FYI is correct — LIONSGATE is the one doing this, so they most certainly are using her name to sell the movie, even if Eiesenberg is the main lead. She is a CO-LEAD. But poor Truthy_1 can\’t handle it. So she stays bitter. Just ignore her and let her wallow in her miserableness.

  2. She\’s still the girlfriend, even though she\’s an undercover CIA agent. Still the girlfriend, assigned to pretend to be in a relationship with the lead, Jesse Eisenberg. He has his own franchise with Now You See Me. @Armand, Pattinson was the one who sold the tickets to the Twilight franchise. It was always about "Edward." There was no Team Bella, remember? She was the plain, ordinary girl who simply served as a placeholder for all the women in the audience who wanted to see Pattison on the big screen. They put a "Fast Forward Edward" feature on the dvds, so women could skip to just his parts. Summit knew who was selling the tickets and the dvds for that franchise.

  3. It\’s clear that they are marketing as a "Kristen Stewart\’s movie" and not a Jesse Eisenberg\’s movie despite him being the main lead. She\’s still a LEAD though, she\’s not a supporting role or anything, I just thought it was kind of weird cause Eisenberg is obviously the main protagonist. But they are doing it for a reason, Stewart is a bigger star, being an oscar nomine doesn\’t make anyone a big star, leading a franchise that made more than 1billion does, and that\’s exactly what Kstew did, and in that one she was the main lead/protagonist, not the co-one (that was Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner).

  4. Every site is doing it. It\’s clearly from the press release. Yes, he is the lead, and posters/trailers will probably reflect that. I know you\’re desperate to think she is just "his girlfriend" in the movie, but you\’re in for a rude awakening, Truthy. She is the co-lead and far more than just a girlfriend tagging along. The big twist in the movie hinges on her, and she is way more than a passive observer.

  5. Eisenberg is the lead, she\’s playing his girlfriend. The film revolves around him. He\’s the Oscar nominee, he\’s opened films before, he\’s arguably the bigger star. She has Twilight name recognition and a very poor box office record with indies. Editorial judgement is often questionable here.

  6. It\’s kind of funny that Kristen is getting top billed. I mean, she\’s lead, but still a co-one. I don\’t mind, the studio is probably doing that because she\’s a bigger star than Eisenberg, I guess, it\’s still weird.
