Thanks to their victories at the Oscars in March, Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan are now very hot Hollywood commodities. And it takes almost no time for the “Everything Everywhere All At Once” stars to team up again. But this time, Yeoh and Quan join forces on the small screen to headline the ensemble cast of Disney+‘s “American Born Chinese,” ready for its premiere next month.

Based on Gene Luen Yang‘s graphic novel of the same name, the upcoming series offers a coming-of-age story steeped in Chinese mythology.

Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang, “American Born Chinese” chronicles the trials and tribulations of a regular American teenager whose life is forever changed when he befriends the son of a mythological god. This is the story of a young man’s battle for his own identity, told through family, comedy, and action-packed Kung-Fu.
Along with Yeoh and Quan, “American Born Chinese” also stars Ben Wang, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Daniel Wu, Jimmy Liu, and Sydney Taylor. But the show also features cast members playing iconic Chinese mythical characters. Among them: Stephanie Hsu as Shiji Niangniang, the Goddess of Stones; Ronny Chieng as Ji Gong; Jimmy O. Yang as Dragon King, Ao Guang; James Hong as Jade Emperor; Leonard Wu as Niu Mowang, or Bull Demon; and Poppy Liu as Princess Iron fan. Lisa Lu and Rosalie Chaing also star in the series.
Emmy-winning writer/producer Kelvin Yu serves as showrunner for “American Born Chinese.” “Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings” director Daniel Cretton helms the series. Both serve as executive producers on the show with Melvin Mar and Jake Kasdan, as well as Erin O’Malley, Asher Goldstein, and Gene Luen Yang.
