After the terrible “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” in 2009 and the better, but not great “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” in 2013, it appears the franchise needed a bit of a breather before Hasbro figured out what to do next. Well, apparently the new plan is to work on solo adventures for some of the breakout characters in the “G.I. Joe” universe, including an upcoming “Snake Eyes” film arriving this year. And now, Hasbro is going to send a “G.I. Joe” character to Amazon, with a new “Lady Jaye” series that is in development.

According to Deadline, Paramount Television Studios, eOne, and Skydance Television are developing a new standalone “G.I. Joe” spinoff series “Lady Jaye.” As the title suggests, “Lady Jaye” will focus on the female member of the elite military group that is in a seemingly never-ending war with Cobra. Lady Jaye was last seen in live-action played by Adrianne Palicki in the aforementioned ‘Retaliation.’
“Lady Jaye” comes from writer-creator Erik Oleson. The filmmaker has previously written and showrun seasons of “The Man in the High Castle” and “Daredevil.” His most recent work was seen in the second season of “Carnival Row,” which also is part of Amazon Prime Video.

While “Lady Jaye” is expected to be a standalone series, the report claims that the show will, of course, take place in the larger “G.I. Joe” universe, which you have to assume includes “Snake Eyes.” It’s unclear how much of these new projects intersect with the previous films or if they’re sort of a soft reboot of the whole story. However, it’s clear that Paramount and Hasbro aren’t willing to let the “G.I. Joe” IP gather dust on the shelf.
A targeted release date for “Lady Jaye” has not been revealed.
