‘All The Money In The World’ Screeners Amazingly In The Hands Of Academy Members

Members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have now officially received every screener they need before voting for the 90th Academy Awards nominations.  After a remarkable and historic reshoot schedule over Thanksgiving thanks to Kevin Spacey‘s downfall — just 5 weeks ago — Ridley Scott’s “All The Money In The World” arrived in the mailboxes of Oscar voters on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 26th and 27th.  Awards consultants prefer to get the screeners in the hands of voters before Christmas, but considering the circumstances the “All The Money” team is more than happy to get there before New Year’s Eve weekend.

At the box office ‘All The Money’ has had an OK start in a very crowded prestige marketplace earning $4.3 million in 2,068 theaters over just two days.  Sony Pictures and Scott are in it for the long game, however.  They are counting on awards attention for Golden Globe nominees Christopher Plummer and Michelle Williams and potentially a Best Supporting Oscar nomination for the former. ‘All The Money’ has a very good 73 on Metacritic and 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it going to benefit from arguably two raves from the critics of the New York Times and Los Angeles Times.  Trust, that’s absolutely one way you get older Oscar members attention.  It also means it could end up being the second or third choice of moviegoers during the holiday week or upcoming weekend.  Taking all that into account, the B Cinemascore grade is slightly troubling.

Then again, considering where the film stood at the beginning of November the fact a screener is in the hands of anyone at this point is still pretty damn remarkable.

  1. It’s still a mediocre movie with mediocre scores from critics. In terms of awards recognition, it won’t go far.
Ridley Scott is too old and past his prime, he should retire.
