‘All In’ Trailer: Amazon’s New Doc Shows America’s History Of Voter Suppression

With the USPS controversy playing out right this moment on the national stage, threatening the idea of a fair election, the idea of voter suppression has never been as widely discussed as it is right now. But sadly, this isn’t anything new. For decades, US citizens have been victims of voter suppression and that history is detailed in the upcoming doc, “All In: The Fight for Democracy.”

As seen in the trailer for ‘All In,’ the film uses the recent gubernatorial run of Stacey Abrams as a launching point to show just how states have used ridiculous laws and procedures to limit the vote for millions of Americans around the country. The doc also goes into the history of voter suppression, showing the fights that women and People of Color had to endure just to get the right that white men have enjoyed since the beginning of the country.

‘All In’ is directed by Liz Garbus and Lisa Cortés. Garbus is probably best known for her film, “What Happened, Miss Simone?” Most recently, she’s worked as a filmmaker on the HBO true crime series, “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” and the narrative feature, “Lost Girls.” Cortés has directed “The Remix: Hip Hop X Fashion” and was a producer on the acclaimed feature, “Precious.”

“All In: The Fight For Democracy” debuts in theaters on September 8 and on Amazon Prime Video on September 18.

Here’s the synopsis:

In anticipation of the 2020 presidential election, ALL IN: THE FIGHT FOR DEMOCRACY examines the often overlooked, yet insidious issue of voter suppression in the United States. The film interweaves personal experiences with current activism and historical insight to expose a problem that has corrupted our democracy from the very beginning. With the perspective and expertise of Stacey Abrams, the former Minority Leader of the Georgia House of Representatives, the documentary offers an insider’s look into laws and barriers to voting that most people don’t even know are threats to their basic rights as citizens of the United States.
