“Orange is the New Black” is one of the most successful series on Netflix, and with that in mind, it’s obvious why the streaming service is interested in anything ‘OITNB’ creator Jenji Kohan has to offer. And her next effort will be “G.L.O.W.,” with Alison Brie set to star.
Set in the 1980s, “G.L.O.W.” tells the story of Ruth, a struggling actress who finds herself with one last shot at glory. However, this opportunity is as a professional wrestler. “G.L.O.W.” is based on the real life “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling” which was a Las Vegas TV series that was a not-so-successful competitor of the World Wrestling Federation. The real “G.L.O.W.” had all the hallmarks of the 1980s, large hair, colorful spandex, wild makeup, and a cringe-worthy rap theme (see below).
The series is created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, with Jenji Kohan along as an executive producer, and Netflix has given “G.L.O.W.” a 10 episode straight-to-series order. Sounds pretty wild and we’re curious to see who else gets in the ring with Kohan and Brie. [Deadline]
