‘Aline’ Trailer: When Is A Celine Dion Biopic Not Actually A Celine Dion Biopic?

“Bohemian Rhapsody” often gets criticized for how it fictionalizes quite a bit of Freddie Mercury’s life. This is a problem that is brought up quite a bit when you watch any sort of film biopic. Luckily for the upcoming biopic, “Aline,” it’s not really the story of Celine Dion. I mean, it is. But it isn’t.

The trailer for “Aline” describes the film as “a fiction freely inspired by the life of Celine Dion.” And honestly, that’s probably the most concise way of describing the new musical drama. Sure, the story is quite clearly that of Celine Dion. But it’s not really about her, per se. Yes, the events that happen are almost exactly that of the pop icon. However, it’s about Aline Dieu, not Celine Dion. Get it?

The not-quite-a-biopic stars Valérie Lemercier as the title character. In addition to starring, Lemercier co-wrote the film alongside Brigitte Buc and is the director of the feature, as well. Joining Lemercier in the cast are Sylvain Marcel, Danielle Fichaud, Roc LaFortune, Antoine Vézina, and Jean-Noël Brouté.

“Aline” is set to arrive in theaters on January 21. You can watch the trailer below.
