With Neill Blomkamp‘s “Alien” looking unlikely to happen, the future of the franchise rests on the shoulders of the man who started it all: Ridley Scott. He’s back with “Alien: Covenant,” which for fans will have to show some improvement over the beautiful looking, viscerally engaging, but kinda really dumb “Prometheus.” And he’s going to try, bringing buckets of blood along with him.
Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby, and more are along for the ride this time, where in space, the audience, at least, can hear you scream. Here’s the official synopsis:
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
“Alien: Covenant” opens on May 19th. And to get you ready, 20th Century Fox has released “Last Supper,” a nearly five-minute long prologue to the film.
