We recently wondered about the state of Alfonso Cuarón’s long-gestating children’s film “A Boy And His Shoe” which was originally scheduled to shoot in 2009 for a mid-2010 release.
London Evening Standard now reports that the film is still “forthcoming” and that European thesps Charlotte Gainsbourg, Guillaume Canet and Daniel Auteuil are attached to star. We completely missed it but the castings evidently took place last year along with actress Pam Ferris for the story a young French girl in Scotland with her family for the summer holidays who crosses paths with two gypsy Scottish boys.
It’s a very talented French cast but, more importantly, is the project actually happening? Additional casting for the role of the Scottish boys began last year when the film was suppose to be shooting but, to date, nothing has been heard since.
Another collaboration between Cuarón and his son, Jonas, the sci-fi thriller “Gravity” is in the works and despite a false start with Angelina Jolie as the lead, the project is probably still on the road to production. Cuarón was also linked to the Depp-Jolie starrer “The Tourist” earlier this year — interestingly, on both occasions, no mention was made of “A Boy And His Shoe.”
Does all this mean the Cuaróns have moved on from the children’s film? At the very least, it does look like the project has been sidelined for now but hopefully Cuarón can fit in his upcoming schedule somewhere. It’d be a real shame for a unique project with such talent involved to waste away.
it could be called " un garçon et sa chaussure" when i see the casting
