Got a Tip?

Alex Gibney’s Eliot Spitzer Documentary ‘Client 9’ Hits VOD October 1st & Theaters November 5th

Alex Gibney is a busy, busy guy. This year alone he already had “Casino Jack And The United States Of Money” (about disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff) hit theaters this spring; he has a a segment in the omnibus documentary “Freakonomics” that will hit theaters later this year, and a third film, “My Trip To Al-Qaeda,” already in the can. Well, yet another one is on the way as his Eliot Spitzer documentary, “Client 9: The Rise And Fall Of Eliot Spitzer” — which screened as a work-in-progress at the Tribeca Film Festival — will hit theaters this fall.

Gibney revealed on Twitter that the film will hit theaters on November 5th and will get a “special VOD” release (yeah, we don’t know what that means either) on October 1st via Magnolia Pictures. With both TIFF and NYFF coming up, it seems likely that it will appear at either or both of those festivals.

It’s a fascinating topic and with Spitzer’s direct involvement, it should be truly compelling. In case you missed it, you can watch an early excerpt of the film online here.

  1. Alex Gibney's film on Spitzer is a total propaganda piece designed to whitewash Spitzer and his betrayal of the public trust.

Gibney even utilizes an actress to play an "anonymous' prostitute who denies that Spitzer cavorted
in black knee socks in the boudoir—–a total Hollywood contrivance. The New York Post confirmed with an
FBI source that Spitzer frolicked with call girls in his droopy black hosiery!

This movie—like the companion book– is a totally intellectually dishonest con-job.

Spitzer is a 24 carat phoney and a serial law-breaker and hypocrite.

  2. I don't know what you've been smoking but give it back to Rand Paul please.

The reality is this was personal, this was direct and it was orchestrated for one reason, greed. Spitzer was wrong for stepping out on his wife and a hypocrite for standing so loudly against prostitution but he didn't do any more than Mr. Appalachian Trail did.
