The controversial story of golf’s most famous player, Tiger Woods, is getting a 10-episode docu-series from Oscar-winning producer, director, and writer Alex Gibney. According to recent reports, Gibney, and his Jigsaw Productions, has signed on to develop a new series based on the early life and career of Tiger Woods.
The series is said to be based on the new biography of the golf legend. The series will showcase the immense amount of work that the two authors of the biography, Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian, put into researching the golfer. With over 400 interviews and tons of research, the series will chart Tiger’s life as a child golf prodigy, an unprecedented sensation on the PGA Tour, and his tabloid scandals that affected his more recent history. With the incredible career Tiger Woods has had as a golfer, as well as his recent struggles in his personal life dealing with the fame associated with his meteoric rise, there’s probably plenty of information to justify 20 episodes, let alone 10.
The series doesn’t have a distributor yet, but with Gibney attached to the production, and Tiger Woods the star, it’s obvious that there will be plenty of suitors for this show. Gibney is most famous for his award-winning documentaries “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room” and “Taxi to the Dark Side.” More recently, he was responsible for the Emmy-winning HBO doc “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.”
Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions has a few documentary projects under its belt, including “Dirty Money,” “Death Row Stories,” and “Zero Days.”
Aw man..that’s time that won’t be spent making another stellar investigative doc.
