Got a Tip?

Alec Baldwin & Rory Culkin Round Out ‘Hick’ With Blake Lively & Chloe Moretz

As the film nears the end of production, it looks like the last bits and pieces of casting have quietly fallen into place.

Content Media announced today they have picked up the international sales rights to “Hick” starring Blake Lively and Chloe Moretz, revealing that the long-rumored Alec Baldwin (whose schedule was probably freed up after dropping out of “Men In Black 3“), Rory Culkin and Ray McKinnon round out a cast that also includes Juliette Lewis and Eddie Redmayne. Directed by Derick Martini (”Lymelife”), the film is an adaptation of Andrea Portes’ coming-of-age novel of the same name (she penned the script as well). The story revolves around Luli (Moretz), a 13-year-old Nebraskan girl and her hard-going life on the road after she runs away from her neglectful parents and home. She’s taken in by Glenda (Lively), a hard-living grifter who takes her under her wing. But the film doesn’t seem to be as gritty as the premise suggests.

The official logline for the film seems to tipping a much sweeter film: “‘Hick’ is a stylish, often funny and a heartfelt coming-of-age story about 13 year old Luli’s life on the road. Whatever is thrown at young Luli only makes her stronger and more defiant, and yet somehow she is able to remain undefeated and undeterred from her goal for a better life. It is this courage that makes ‘Hick’ an incredible story and an inspiration to all.”

As with almost every other project announced in the last few weeks, the film will head to Cannes and look for buyers with a teaser being shown to interested parties. This will likely hit sometime next year, and we’d guess a Sundance premiere isn’t out of the question.
