‘Aisha’ Trailer: Letitia Wright Is A Nigerian Woman Struggling To Navigate Immigration In Upcoming Drama

2022 is shaping up to be a big year for Letitia Wright. Obviously, she is set to have a massive role in the upcoming “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which will no doubt turn her into an instant A-lister. However, she’s also got a couple of smaller dramas that are arriving this year that will showcase her acting chops. The first one, “The Silent Twins,” arrived recently and is a stunning coming-of-age drama. Next, she has “Aisha,” which is looking to cement Wright as one of the best actresses working today.

As seen in the trailer for “Aisha,” the film stars Wright as the title character, a young Nigerian woman who is seeking asylum in Ireland. However, as you might expect, her situation gets muddied by the complicated situations surrounding social services and bureaucracy. Thankfully, she is able to find a friend in Conor (played by Josh O’Connor), who helps in her time of need. “Aisha” is written and directed by Frank Berry

In our review of the film, from this year’s Tribeca, we said, “‘Aisha’ will probably find itself greeted by a narrow audience, as it’s not an inspiring, hopeful, triumph-of-the-human-spirit story – for good reason, because those are, in this world, few and far between. But it is a thoughtful and intelligent film, and it finds a gifted actor doing some very tricky things quite well.”

Alone and unwilling to sacrifice her dignity to satisfy the demands of the authorities, she finds an ally in Conor (Josh O’Connor), an employee at her residence home, a local young man with a troubled past of his own. Together they struggle to maintain their tender friendship in the face of Aisha’s increasingly dire predicament and her rapidly diminishing options.
