The Brothers Bloom are the best con men in the world, swindling millionaires with complex scenarios of lust and intrigue. Now they’ve decided to take on one last job – showing a beautiful and eccentric heiress the time of her life with a romantic adventure that takes them around the world.
Why do we care about this trailer/film? Aside from the pretty solid cast – Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel Weisz, and Rinko Kikuchi – more importantly this is the follow-up film from Rian Johnson, the filmmaker who directed the very auspicious, “Brick” in 2005 with Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
The problem however, is that while “Brick” was a deft neo-noir, this one seems to be a left turn into screwball caper comedy, a genre even the Coen Brothers can’t seem to handle perfectly from start to finish. The title sequences almost make it seem like Guy Ritchie with a wackier and sillier sense of humor. Hmm, we’re on the fence, but we won’t have too long to figure how it plays out, “Brothers Bloom” hit theaters on October 24th this fall. We’ll hold out a little bit of faith for now considering how good “Brick” was. [trailer spotted via FirstShowing]
The trailer isn’t loading on my browser. It is findable through the magic of YouTube, though.
Incidentially, the trailer looks awful — there seem to be a few 2d/3d act spoilers, as far as I can tell. Given what Rian has said on his website and given the moody tone of Brick, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if Bloom is much darker than this trailer would suggest…
Works for me and i just tried again this morning.
