Got a Tip?

Adam Sandler Dismounts ‘Ridiculous 6,’ Gets On Board Rom-Com That May Reteam Him With Drew Barrymore

nullWhile some thought that Judd Apatow’s 2009 dramedy “Funny People” could mark a turning point of sorts for Adam Sandler, the comedy star has dedicated the years since to further become the type of actor he lampooned in the viral ads for the Apatow film. And now, Deadline is reporting that he’s thinking about teaming up again with the actress he’s already romanced in two previous films, to diminishing returns.

While he was set to embark for the wild frontier with the western comedyRidiculous 6,” it seems that Sandler is taking the underperformance — to put it mildly — of “That’s My Boy” and “Jack & Jill” to heart. So he’s decided to make a romantic comedy set on a resort instead. This guy really knows how to pick movies that double as paid vacations… So what’s it about? “After a disastrous blind date, Jim and Lauren find themselves, each with their kids from a previous marriage, stuck together in a resort for families. Despite everything they can do to resist, the attraction grows between the two, and their kids benefit from the growing relationship.” Sigh.

The untitled rom-com, brewing at Warner Bros since 2007, will star Sandler and an as-of-yet unnamed female lead, though he’s allegedly taking a look at his “The Wedding Singer” and “50 First Dates” co-star Drew Barrymore. The film was originally written by Ivan Menchell and Clare Sera, and it’s unclear whether they’ll stay on as writer or Sandler’s Happy Madison will bring in one of their top talents.

Where does that leave “Ridiculous 6?” It’s apparently still going to happen but it’s “moved back until next year at least.” Fear not, however, Sandler will be next seen in the much-anticipated “Grown Ups 2” this summer on July 12th.
