Sebastian Maniscalco made the jump from stand-up comic to actor about five years ago, with small turns in “Cruise,” “Tag,” and “Green Book.” Then he had his first meaty role as “Crazy” Joe Gallo in Martin Scorsese‘s “The Irishman.” Now Maniscalco teams up with another “Irishman” actor, Robert De Niro, for his first starring role in “About My Father.”

Maniscalco plays a fictional version of himself in the upcoming film, about an Italian guy getting married to his all-American long-time girlfriend and the culture clash that happens when his old-school dad (De Niro) crashes a summer holiday weekend.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
When Sebastian tells his old-school Italian immigrant father Salvo that he is going to propose to his all-American girlfriend, Salvo insists on crashing a weekend with her tony parents.
Alongside Maniscalco and De Niro, “About My Father” also stars Leslie Bibb, Kim Cattrall, Brett Dier, Anders Holm, and David Rasche.
Laura Terruso direct “About My Father” from a script from Maniscalco and Austen Earl. “American Pie” producers Chris and Paul Weitz co-produce with Andrew Miano and Judi Marmel.
While moviegoers await De Niro’s next dramatic turn in “Killers Of The Flower Moon” later this year, “About My Father” provides something more in the vein of “Dirty Grandpa.” Is that a good thing? Find out when “About My Father” hits theaters everywhere on Memorial Day Weekend on May 26. Watch a trailer for the film below.
