And the reboots keep coming. If “Lethal Weapon” and “MacGyver” weren’t enough this fall, ABC is the latest network to announce plans to retool a beloved franchise for modern audiences, aiming to refashion the hit 80s TV series, “Magnum P.I.” The rebootquel will star Thomas Magnum’s daughter as she takes over the family business in Hawaii.

Deadline is reporting that “Leverage” creator John Rogers and Eva Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment is spearheading the series. Apparently, UnbeliEVAble was scouring the ABC catalog for properties that could be rebooted and found a way in with “Magnum P.I.” After admitting the task of doing a true reboot and trying to recast the role that Tom Selleck made so famous would be too difficult, they decided to focus on his daughter, Lily “Tommy” Magnum. And as diehard ‘P.I.’ fans note, Lily did appear in the original series in four episodes, so the narrative connection is there.
We’ll see if it gets picked up to series, and more importantly, if Tom Selleck would reprise his iconic role, even if just to help pass the torch.
But will she have a mustache.
