Got a Tip?

‘The ABC Murders’ Trailer: John Malkovich Is Hercule Poirot In Amazon’s New Series Based On The Agatha Christie Novel

They say the classics are always in style, and that can most definitely apply to the novels from mystery writer Agatha Christie. The author behind some of the world’s most famous detective novels has been adapted numerous times for TV and film, most recently (and successfully, if the box office is a barometer) in Kenneth Branagh’sMurder on the Orient Express.” Well, Amazon is getting in on the Christie madness by adapting her Hercule Poirot novel “The ABC Murders.”

Instead of Branagh as the hero of the series, the famous detective Poirot is portrayed by John Malkovich in the new series. In the first trailer, we’re introduced to his version of the detective, as well as his accent, and the latest mystery he has to solve – the ABC murders. The not-so-cleverly named crimes feature victims that are murdered in the same sequence of the alphabet. Hopefully, your name begins with a Z, that way you have plenty of time before the killer comes for you, right?

Joining Malkovich in the series’ cast are Rupert Grint, Andrew Buchan, Eamon Farren, and Jack Farthing. “The ABC Murders” is written by Sarah Phelps, who has a ton of TV experience under her belt, and directed by Alex Gabassi, who is probably best known for the recent miniseries “The Frankenstein Chronicles.”

The new Amazon series, “The ABC Murders” hits the streaming service on February 1, 2019.

Here’s the synopsis:

Agatha Christie’s famous detective, Hercule Poirot (John Malkovich) is racing against time to stop serial killer known as “A.B.C.” In a cat and mouse chase across the length of Britain, will Poirot prevail before the murderer stages his next crime?

Update: Watch the first clip from the show.
