Got a Tip?

Christian Bale: Lord of the Nerds? Rumors Have Him Pegged To Play Marvel’s ‘Dr. Strange’

Is the last link in Christian Bale’s insidious plot to dominate every realm of science fiction and comic book cinema complete? According to rumors making the rounds, Bale is currently the top choice to play Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange, the enigmatic sorcerer of the Marvel Universe. The “Dr. Strange” film has been in the works for some time, but appears to finally be moving forward with the involvement of Guillermo Del Toro and possibly Neil Gaiman. So what about Bale?

Livenews.com.au is reporting that Bale is the studio’s pick to bring the magician superhero to life, with a source claiming that “Doctor Strange is a very different kind of hero to Batman and it’s felt Christian is the sort of actor who can make the part work on screen. It is understood a deal could be struck in the coming weeks.” So does this mean that in addition to being the new face of DC’s flagship hero Batman and star of the upcoming sci-fi epic “Terminator Salvation” Bale is going to step into the shiny boots of a classic, albeit underrated, Marvel hero? Time will tell, but smells like bunk to us.

The “Dr. Strange” movie is a really great chance for fans of comic book movies to get acquainted with one of the more interesting second-tier comic book heroes. The problem, though is that while the studio will probably throw a fistfull of cash at Bale for this part, is it the best career move? He’s already the unrequited man-crush of every American male old enough to have experienced their sexual awakening and doubly for comic book fans. The last thing he needs is to become the chiseled face of a much-beloved and less-well known Marvel character. Unless, of course, he wants to spend his golden years at ComicCon.
