Got a Tip?

2-Disc ‘Benjammin Button’ Soundtrack Due December 23, Hints At Final Poster

Fincher Fanatic the blog dedicated to all things David Fincher have done a good job of rounding up some details on, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” The film is due in theaters on December 25, but still doesn’t have an official poster. Or does it? They point to both the new Apple page and the soundtrack art that looks like the final ‘Ben Button’ poster will be a little underwhelming.

Either way, it looks like a lot of music from ‘Button’ composer Alexandre Desplat is coming our way soon. The instrumental score CD, will be a two-disc edition that comes out on December 23 (you can see the full tracklist there, it’s a little long to post. 46 tracks in all).

That’s a super long soundtrack for score material, no? Well, Desplat wrote 80 minutes of music for the film. Not a exorbitant amount considering the film is near 3 hours in length, but still, certainly enough for two cds.

As we mentioned a few months ago, we first noticed Desplat for his chilling and haunting score to the creepy Jonathan Glazer mindbender, “Birth” starring Nicole Kidman. Fincher himself was also one of those people that was deeply marked by Desplat’s unsettling compositions.
” ‘Birth’ is one of my favorite scores, as good as anything I’ve heard in 25 years,” Fincher told Variety. “Alexandre’s music is playful and witty. But I think it’s the oblique nature by which he goes at things. With composers, I think you have to hire somebody you believe in and then get the fuck out of the way.”

And coincidentally, today is Fincher’s birthday.

  1. Does anyone know if the movie will feature alot (if any) song songs? For a film that spans 80 years or so, you think it’d be a great idea to show that span in it’s music. Or maybe not. Judging from the type of film it supposedly is, it is probably artier to leave it with an instumental score only. And Forrest Gump already did the musical time of our lives thing.
