Got a Tip?

Watch: Ridiculous New Trailer For ‘Getaway’ Starring Ethan Hawke & Selena Gomez

null

Movie villains are a special breed, usually choosing to hatch elaborate, complicated schemes to complete a goal that would probably be easier to execute if they just went and did it themselves the old-fashioned way. So when some random bad guy wants something from a bank, does he hire a bunch of goons to rob the place? Maybe commit some kind of fraud to get his hands on it? Nope, he gets a race car driver to do his bidding for him all while on a ticking clock…

That’s basically the plot of the upcoming thriller “Getaway,” which brings together the head-scratching duo of Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez. Directed by Courtney Solomon (“An American Haunting,” “Dungeons & Dragons“—you’ve been warned) the movie finds Hawke’s wife kidnapped, with him being forced to do all kinds of illegal things to set her free. And along for the ride is a hoodie-wearing Gomez who picked the wrong car to hijack that day. (Oddly, the previous trailer sells her as a criminal, where this spot makes her an unwilling victim roped into this gig). Things explode, cars crash, whatever.

Either way, it all looks pretty dumb and terrible, hence the release on August 30th, at the tail end of the summer, on what is usually considered a pretty soft movie weekend.

  1. "Either way, it all looks pretty dumb and terrible…" You learn to pontificate like that in journalism school? I'm sure your fellow baristas will be very impressed with your discerning taste in cinema; but maybe you should stick to reviewing "mumblecore" trailers. This is an action movie with a cool car and a bunch of badass stuntmen making real cars actually fly through the air. Maybe it's not your thing but it's fun to watch so you can spare us all your pompous, chai-sipping presumptions about a movie you've never seen.

she wasn't a criminal in the first trailer. she was trying to get her car back and was using a gun to do so. it looked like a carjacking but she just wanted her property back.

    get it? fancy, huh?
