If there is one man who knows how to keep franchises not only viable, but continually growing, it’s Sylvester Stallone. It was just last month, we learned that “Rocky” would be getting in the ring again, this time as the spinoff “Creed,” with “Fruitvale Station” director and star, Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan involved, along with Sly himself. And now, another one of Stallone’s brands is getting dusted off and instead of heading to the multiplex, it’s going to the small screen.
THR reports that Entertainment One is developing “Rambo” for TV, and of course, Stallone is in talks to come on aboard creatively and possibly reprise his role. The actor’s pal over at Nu Image, Avi Lerner (producer of “The Expendables” flicks) is working on this, and we suppose it’s not all that surprising. Talk of a feature film “Rambo 5“—one in which John Rambo would be killed, and the torch passed to the next generation (John Jr.?)—has been kicking around for years, but maybe a show is the better way for send Rambo off into the sunset.
That being said, there’s no word yet on what the premise will be, or even who’s writing the scripts, so this is all in early stages. For now, you’ll just have to watch Stallone crack skulls in “The Expendables 3” which is now shooting, and in the upcoming “Escape Plan” with Arnold Schwarzenegger hitting theaters on October 18th.
Set it in the 70s, and have it as the war stories and misadventures of the young Rambo (pre-First Blood).
"yessssssssss." 9-year old me.
