Watch: Clip From ‘Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom’ Chronicles Sharpeville Massacre Plus New Pics From The Film

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom

Before we get into this, can we just say, that putting the words “long walk” into your movie title, even if preceded by the word “Mandela,” is not an easy sell for the average moviegoer. Particularly when that movie is 152 minutes long. But we suppose Harvey Weinstein knows what he’s doing as his fall contender gets ready to uh, walk.

Mandela: A Long Walk To Freedom” hits next month, and we’re going to be seeing a lot more from the Idris Elba-starring flick, starting with this clip. It details the Sharpeville Massacre, the brutal incident in March 1960 when police opened fire on a crowd of about 5,000 to 7,000 people who were protesting South Africa’s “pass laws,” which required blacks to essentially a pass with them at all times, particularly when entering “white” parts of the country. It was a method of enforcing segregation, and as you can see, pushback against the authorities ended badly, with 69 people getting killed.

The Justin Chadwick directed flick will open on November 29th. Check out the scene below along with new images from the movie.
