Got a Tip?

‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes’ Back On, Production To Start In 2014

nullBad reviews, a soft opening and a tepid $80 million worldwide haul—these are not the signposts for a successful launch of a YA franchise. And indeed, despite a small but very vocal fanbase for "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones," it seemed that Constantin Film had thrown in the towel when it was announced last month that the in-development sequel, "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Ashes," was being shut down indefinitely. The future of the series was in doubt, but today, it looks like fans of Cassandra Clare have reason to rejoice.

It seems your letters and petitions have paid off as Constantin has revealed that ‘City Of Ashes’ will go into production in 2014. "The fan response, from the blogosphere and the thousands of mails we have received, has encouraged us to keep going,”  head of the company’s film and TV Martin Moszkowicz told THR, before adding the zinger:  “It’s been overwhelmingly positive, in contrast to some other YA titles.” But that doesn’t mean that he’s completely blind to the fact that ‘Bones’ failed to find a wide audience.

“We are analyzing what we did wrong with the first film, particularly with the positioning and marketing, and what changes we have to make," he explained. "We are working with a great group of people to reposition the franchise.”

Details on who will direct and who will return aren’t quite clear, though it’s safe to say that Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Kevin Zegers probably all have jobs. At one point Sigourney Weaver was signed up too, but again, it’s not certain if she’s still on board.

It’ll be interesting to see how Constantin approach production on the sequel. We can’t imagine they’ll spend more than the $60 million they did on ‘City Of Bones’ this time around, but clearly there is something in the numbers they’re getting to indicate this series is worth a second crack. But will you give it another shot? Is there even room for another YA series with "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" arriving in a matter of weeks and newcomers "Divergent" and "The Maze Runner" dropping next year? We’ll see….

  2. @June the mortal instruments city of ashes film is not being made. The book series has been made into a tv series but the show does not have a premiere date

  3. It is now 2015 and I still don\’t know when Mortal Instruments, City of Ashes will be out. I am waiting patiently, but it is so hard to wait! What is holding it up and how much longer???

  4. I\’m really excited to here they are going to try again. I agree you need to stick with the same people you started with and sticking closer to the book as you can. I can\’t wait to see what will happen.

  5. Please let it be so. I am pleasantly surprised with how Bones turned out, to be honest, I thought nothing could compare to the book and had not been looking forward to the film, but I just finished watching it and have decided there MUST be a sequel. I will literally inconsolable if there is nothing after City of Bones. My favorite books came to life in my favorite movie, and I never thought I\’d enjoy the film like I did, but I did. Please. Make City of Ashes.

  6. I\’m 15 years old and me and friends watched this at my sleepover we all loved it and I can\’t wait to city of ashes ordering the books now !!!

  7. It is now Marh of 2015 and I am stil aitin to hear if "Mortal Instruments, City of Ashes" will be produced! Please!!!! I have read the whole series , and still, no second movie. I\’m dying to see Jamie Campbell Bower and Lilly Collins get back together, cause we now they are in love!

  8. Finally.
I\’ve been waiting so long to find some goof news about the film being back on track!
I absolutely loved the film it was packed filled with excitement and drama.
My boyfriend also enjoyed the film. He said it wad better than twilight

  10. I have ben waiting for City of ashes……i know the books, and i liked City of bones……i doent understand that it failed i the theaters……maby a stronger personality in the main caracter……sorry the actor seem a bit to week……when you think of her personality in the books……she is a bit to…..hmmm week, and doent push through in the movie

  11. Awesome! I\’m a HUGE fan of The Mortal Instruments series. I lost count of how many times I\’ve reread the books… Hearing that their "planning on" filming City of Ashes is like the best news I\’ve got all day. It surprised me when I heard that City of Bones didn\’t sale as much as they expected. Sure, its not as popular as divergent, The Hunger Games, and the Maze Runner but for the fans sake I think its worth it to make the second movie. To be honest, I felt they did a pretty good job on the first film. Although some detail changes ,I felt, were unneeded. Maybe that\’s one of the reasons it didn\’t sale as much. Sticking closer to the book would ensure more success in the next movie.
Also I love the cast. I felt like they matched the way I imagined the characters in my head. City of bones is an AMAZING story. I\’m so attached to this series and for some reason I feel the next movie will be a hit.

  12. I absolutely love the series and it\’s been the only series I\’ve been extremely passionate about. I\’m so excited that city of ashes is going to be put out in theaters. I\’ve been anxiously waiting for such a long time! I can\’t wait!!!

  13. I am excited about second one. I had watched the first one before reading the book to it and after seeing it I went and read all six books to series I enjoyed them all. So I hope they are doing second one and happy to see already some of the cast from first one are in it. I hope Godfrey Gao is playing Magnus Bane again in this one he was great for that part

  14. Correction…."i was worried the 2nd would not go through". This is what happens when you are excitedly texting from your cell phone while you rush to make it to work on time. LOL. Please bring back mortal instruments!

  15. I was worried the 2nd would go through….it\’s nearly the end of 2014 and i still have my fingers and toes crossed. I hope to see the original cast too.

  16. Thank goodness!! Seriously, I love the storyline. I love reading the books…if it stopped after one movie, I would be ticked. I want to see e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. play out!! The problem was not a lot of people knew about it. So glad, they\’re starting on the 2nd. Just have 4-5 movies after that to go 😛

  17. OMG yay thx so much u made my day and don\’t think that only older people like this series I love it and I\’m only 12. I really want this movie and keep the actors they are awesome!!!

  18. I don\’t know what was supposed to be wrong with the first movie? I looooved it and I\’m 46. I Though it was wonderfully done. I just watched it with my 10 year old granddaughter and now she\’s a fan. Keep doing what you\’re doing it\’s awesome!

  19. First, Jamie Campbell Bower is a fine young actor, but having read the books, I just can\’t picture him as Jace! That was my problem with the first movie. In the books, Jace is a young Adonis. While Jamie is cute, he falls short in the young Adonis category! Just my opinion!

  20. i thought the first movie was good and i think you should keep going on city of ashes din\’t give up i think lot of people are wait for city of ashes i know im

  21. We have enjoyed the movies and can\’t wait for the rest of series to be finished. By the way we are 63 and 67 Years of age. Thanks you for a great movie!

  22. I think that if the movie sticks closer to the book then it will be a for sure hit. I hope, pray, and wish that you all do not give up on City of Ash. Many of us will be extremely disappointed. I watch City of Bones weekly; I am just in awe of the entire world that Cassandra Clare has created and because not too many have heard of the books, the movie may have fell a little short audience wise but I can't even begin to list how many people I personally have made read and fall in love with the series.

  23. Yes, I agree City of bones did lack in certain areas but I would be so very upset I could not be apart of the second movie. I know you will do an excitant job with city of ash. Looking forward to be apart of that world again. Thank you for not giving up on the series and the fans. ❤️Jennifer

  24. I didnt like how the movie was way different than the book but I still liked it, I think they should give the city of ashes a shot but stick closer to the book 🙂

  25. They screwed it up by changing the story line so much. If they'd followed it better they would've done better. I understand some things can be complicated to turn into film, but it's a much better tale. If like to see how they planned to continue this one though. This movie left me with so many questions I had to read the book, but I did mostly enjoy it.

  26. I think it was more people didn't have the money to see it in the theaters. It was definitely a great movie, it made good out and buy the books…and I don't like to read, I never found a book good enough. I could put the books down and was done with a book in a week! But I love movies more, and it is taking to long for the second movie to come out!

  27. People that don't like this movie because it doesn't go by the book ,hasn't read the books for other movies. The Percy Jackson movies are nothing like the books, the twilight movies are also different than the books. I love these books have read all the mortal instruments and loved them can't wait for the next movie maybe if they promote it a little better. I never expect the movie to be the same as the books. Books are always better because they are more detailed

  28. Read the books and loved them. Saw the film and completely hated it, Mangus bane actor was awful not what you would picture same with valentine the acting was poor on all kinds of levels couldn't belive " Jace's" acting at all. They didnt stick to the book, actually got confused as to where they were pulling half the cast from. Robert Sheen and Jarrid Harris were perfect choices but the rest of the team lacked any acting resemblance to the book. I was horrified and wanted to leave half way through the film, actually got bored. My boyfriend and i rushed out of work that day to catch the film and shouldnt have bothered so i hope they make some real changes and it not a waste of money like last time. I only critic it so hard cause I am truly in love with the books, amazing story line and first book I picked up and read in years without getting bored, fell in love with all the charaters, its why i judge it so hard.

  29. I thought the roles were played good by the actors and actresses. I can't wait for City of Ashes to come out. I read all the books that has came out. I have been thinking about re-reading them because it has be awhile since I read them. I think City of Bones should have been longer. Some more of the parts in the book need to be used. The movies was good but, I thought it could have been better with more added from the book. I hope this will be something like twilight because it is awesome to read the books and see how they come out on film.

  30. I hope the secod movie is better than the first and the makers stick to the story line of the book.I am pretty excited to see who will be playing Sebastian/Jonathan. I think Dane Dehaan would be great but lets wait and see.

  31. Read the books and loved them. Saw the movie loved it now just waiting for the next movie I really hope to see it soon. Haveing read all te books it just feels unfinished not having all the movies to go with it.

  32. I think that they need to follow the books a little more closely and to not follow in the foot steps of twilight, they could really benefit by not rushing. they should take the time to make them right

  33. It has to come out. I loved the first movie. I had not read the books and after watching City of Bones I knew I had to get the books. They are amazing. I love it. I really hope you continue the movies and maybe more books.

  34. I think what they did wrong in the first movie is
They took out a lot of parts that were in the book.
But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE THE SECOND
MOVIE!!!!! The Mortal Instruments Are the BEST
BOOKS EVER and I really want to see it in a movie
    🙂

  35. Can't wait for City of Ash to come out, as a fan I've waited years for the movies to start, an they will be great! city of Bones was good. Promotion and PI sucked no previews were on TV but a couple same as in the theaters. So how can you put the movies out there for the publice to be aware of such great stores? The other YA movie with Mortal Instruments is all about timing on when they come out, an not to close to each other. Hunger Games is due to be over this year. People are ready for Mortal Instruments and have been, look at the book sales!

  36. I believe the true reason the first movie failed was two part………………….1. It came out relatively close to a Twilight movie. (the fans from that franchise hadn't yet been starved of 'otherworld' romance, so their huge demographic hadn't yet read this series – thus didn't see the movie) 2. This movie was rated PG13, but the trailers led one to believe it was a bit more graphic than some of its readers (parents) would like – and I believe it scared people off.

Despite the fact that this series deserves its own (well earned) meritorious kudos, it would do well – Hollywood speaking- to promo itself much like Twilight did………… for box office purposes. It deserves the same epic build up to the finale of the sixth book! Plus, it won't hurt the wallet to attract that lucrative audience, now starved for another love story amid the darkness………………

  37. Please start making this film. The cast is great excepting Alec – just give him a younger vibe and he'll be fine. I am a huge Alex Pettyfer fan but once I saw this I can see no one but Jamie playing Jace Wayland. The chemistry is spot on with this cast. I had no idea you had even made the first movie and only saw it once it came out on DVD and my sister picked it up and I've read all 6 books. Maybe better PR??? It is a Young Adult film and if you look at other franchises they made more money with each one. This will do the same. PLEASE START MAKING THIS FILM …

  38. You guy can make it better by actually following the book this time stop catering to the people who have read tge book and cater to the fan who have. Dont make the love scenes so cheesy and replace some of the characters the guy who plays alec looks old like he is in his forties, the girl who plays Isabelle doesn't match how the character in the book looks and the same goes for the guy who plays jace and if you keep jamie put some meet on his bones he looks sucked in!!!!!!!

  39. Please continue to make the Mortal Instruments series. I will definitely go to the theater when it comes out and will buy the movies, even if it went straight to DVD. This series may not fit the main stream audience but to the fans it means everything. The books were so good that we crave an on screen version of these stories. It is such a treat to see the characters brought to life and marvel in the fantasy world of Shadowhunters.

  40. I loooove this series! Do not change the cast, bc Jamie is perfect for jace! But dreadlocks for valentine??! The black hair was ok I guess bc it suited him. But please make the second movie! I saw little advertisement 4 the first movie and saw it on starz and then I was hooked on it! I watched over and over again! I am on book 5 now and can't stop! The first movie had some faults, like I didn't see Raphael, and they got simon's transformation wrong. But overall this series is better than twilight, divergent, and many more! I love it!

  41. Loved the books. Liked the movie. Some performances were better than I expected, but for some of the characters-they totally casted the wrong people.
Audrey has it right, wrong Valentine and Jace (although I do like them just not for these parts)
Also Alec and Izzy. They were okay but I think the casting director could have done a better job.
I will say that at first I didn't like Who they chose for Simon BUT he was great in the movie.
I am a big fan of the series and will go see the second movie, the question is when will "Hollywood" realize that when a book series is loved, it is loved for a reason. I know they can't keep all the material so leave some out but STOP CHANGING IT!

  42. I absolutely love City Of Bones. After seeing the movie, I read books 1 through 5and loved them…looking forward to getting book 6. I recorded City Of Bones on my mom's DVR, she ended up watching it one day and fell in love with it also. She and I are both looking forward to City Of Ashes. BUT, it would be nice if there were updates on the progress of City Of Ashes periodically…just to keep the fans informed. Anxiously waiting…

  43. I think that this series has real potential. The books were wonderful and I love the author. I think the main flaws in the first movie were casting for Valentine, the villain, and Jace, the second main character. Valentine is meant to be a middle aged man who wears a suit and tie and is very manipulative. In City of Bones the movie, he dressed like a biker and has dreadlocks. He was supposed to be clean shaven!!! Jamie Campbell Bower could be a very accurate Jace, but in the film I think he looked anorexic and had this weird British accent. Many of the characters did seem to have different accents. That bothered me quite a bit because they are all supposed to be from New York City. I also do not think they did a good job with cutting out scenes or with how the demons are supposed to look. They had the scene in the Dumort hotel, but Simon did not become a vampire. Also, the portal was not supposed to explode, and when it did it started to snow indoors?! I found many mistakes like these that in my opinion made it overall a bad movie. However, if they make City of Ashes into a move I will go see it because I am a big fan of the book and the author. Casandra Clare perfected these books and the world they take place in. It would be a shame to see them made into poorly executed movies.

  44. You HAVE to make another movie!!! Oh my goodness! I absolutely loooooooved the first movie. I really do think that more advertisement will help with selling the second movie. I barely saw anything showing the first movie going out, and I hadn't even heard about it until m uncle introduced me to the books. I would never have seen in if I didn't get on the plane ride I saw it on. I had no idea when it even came out, so I really think the second book needs more advertisement. Like some of the previous comments said, DO NOT leave out the important details. I sas the first movie before I read the book, so when I read the book, I realized how manh mistakes were made. Clary and Jocelyn are supposed to have bright red, curly hair. I do think that Lily Collins played the part perfectly and you should keep her in the next ones too, but Valentine was also supposed to have white hair instead of black and that bead-looking thing in his hair. I do think he was a good actor for Valentine, but at least put a white wig on him or something. He's the one that's supposed to dazzle everyone like Jace does. Jamie Campbell Bower was the perfect pick for him, so definitely keep him, but in this coming movie, make sure to pick good characters to play Maia and Raphael. Also, include all the good details!!! I can not rephrase that enough! When I read the book after the movie, I realized you left out the part where Raphael brought Clary and Jace into the hotel, and Simon was a rat!! He was not tangled up in chains hanging as a human! Cassandra Clare is an amazing writer, and she included these details in the book to make it good! Taking them out when you're making the movie just ruins the movie even worse. City of Bones was a great movie, I admit, but when people read the books, they realize that you really messed up. Because you didn't include Raphael in the first movie, I imagine it's going to be a little harder to introduce him in the second movie. I really can't wait until the second movie comes out, and I trust that you will try to make it better than the first, but please consider taking my advice. Thank you! 🙂 Good luck!

  45. For the characters that come out in COA, make sure they look like the way they are described in the book. Many people, including myself, we're not very pleased at the fact that Valentine was supposed to have white hair and they gave him black hair in the movie. So when Maria and Jordan and Raphael come into the series, make sure the descriptions from the book fit into the movie. And don't cut out any important details like in COB, the final battle was not supposed to go down the way it did. It was supposed to happen in an abandoned hospital I believe (haven't read it I'm a while) not in the institute. So don't leave out the important details because that's what we as fans of the series want to see.
This is just my imput. Thanks for reading.

  46. You can't start a series then not finish it!! That's sooo wrong! I loved the first movie, it inspired me to read the books, and I LOVE THEM!!! As for the marketing, I'm pretty sure that's where the downfall came for this movies launch!! Do more Comic-Con/Late Night talk shows & online forums for fans to have their own film premier parties like other successful series have (i.e. HP, Twilight) and you'll be amazed at the escalation in sales! I remember barely seeing ANY movie commercials before City of Bones was launched. Like hardly any.

  47. I had seen the mortal instrument city of bones movie and I absolutely adored it. then it inspired me to read the books. I have bought book 3 already. I want to keep on going because the movie left out a lot of details but that can always be fixed. I know so many people at school that are reading the book with me and we would love for the city of ashes move to come out very soon. Cant wait

  48. Can't wait for mortal instruments city of ash, the books are great reads and yah the first movie wasn't the best, but I think rushing for it to be done is what hurt the film, city of bones. These books are great stories and if twilight can make it then why not Mortal Instruments they are ten times better to read. How can that not be the same as watching. Maybe the problems has to do with the fans waiting for years to see any progress in the movie industry they are taking years to decide on weather or not they should make them into movies. Then they do and rush the filming. Please do right by these films the fans have waited and will continue to wait as long as they do justice with the books being transformed into movies.

  49. plsplsplsplsplsPLEASE!
I'M BEGGING YOU!! You have to make city of ashes movie or I'll die!! I don't see much wrong in the first movie, i loved it! especially the beginning, but because i loved it so much i thought it was too short. and there wasn't enough passion between jace and clary. but anyway, i really hope city of ashes movie will come out soon and i've been looking everywhere on the web to see if the movie's coming out. don't keep us fans in suspense! everyone at my school are waiting to death!

  50. I know your making the second one but please make the third one too and the rest of the series. It means so much and don't change the actors otherwise then it will go down a lot. Just keep making them. Lots of people like the movie. Maybe it is different from the book but a lot of people will still like it because they wanna see the next one. Please make all of them.

  51. I read the rest of the books BECAUSE of the film. I need the rest of the books to come into film as well. I have REALLY enjoyed the books and i want to see the production and directors takes on it, but I do feel they drifted too far away from the story in the films. I would rather sit in the cinema for an extra half hour to see the film done well, than miss key parts and do a poor job.

  52. I absolutely ❤️💛💚💙💜💗the mortal instruments city of bones. I really hope they do the motal instruments city of ashes because it will be perfect and please keep going with them all and I know you think more adults are watching it but all my friends and twitter think it's suitable for teens. I would definitely give it a 10/10 xxxx😜😜😜

  53. Please don't make this like Percy Jackson. Don't have us wait 3 years for another movie. They need to make the rest of the books into movies. I just hope this next time they put it out there more. Promotion is huge. They also need to stick more to the book. The movie ventured too far off, and it'll be interesting to see how they fix everything. Extremely siked. Please make it come faster.

  54. The cast for The Mortal Instruments is PERFECT. Seriously Simon and Magnus are particularly dead on. The way the movie was executed could have been better but please please please do not give up on this series!

  55. I love the books, and it is so fun to see them come to life in theater's. I hope they continue these films!
Staying close to the story line of the books is always a plus to book reader also

  56. I hope that the second movie is made. I knew nothing about the series until my daughter turned on the movie on cable. It made me ask her a lot of questions until she got me the books to read. Now I am a fan.

  57. I agree this is a great movie but never heard of it until a week ago on starz and I have not been able to stop watching it…… I love the characters (actors), the action seens and the love story but again have never heard of the movie until I was scrolling thru on demand and watched it for the first time and never knew there was even a book series…….. I hope the next sequel is under production I cant wait to watch it…..

  58. I'm equally excited for the sequel. Can't wait to see the next one. The cast is perfect! Really, please make the next one! It's a great series. People can't always make it to the theater. It JUST made Redbox and I'm hooked! Looking forward to the next!

  59. I can tell them one of the biggest problem with the movie was marketing. I just happened to be bored one night and saw the movie on starrs I fell in love with the movie the first time I saw it and that was in March of 2014 so I found out bout this movie 7 months after it was first released. I started searching for sequels of this movie and discovered they were books being made into movies I decided to read them all read all the ones avaliable and still want to read and see more. They need to get this movie launched with a before the little hype around it dies down right now it's gaining momentum the more people who actually see it but once the hype dies down and then they release the sequel they will not have the box office blowout they were expecting. My opinion get the movie moving and realease an release date then launch marketing targeting the release date to build hype you can't keep fans hanging on forever

  60. I really enjoyed the movie and love the books. I thought they did a good job in the changes they made in the movie and keeping some really great lines from the book. I am so looking forward to more movies from this book series.

  61. I loved the first movie. Honestly, it wasn't bad. The fact they are going to keep going makes me really excited. I love everyone who stared in "City of Bones" now I'm just waiting for the next movie to come out so I can fan girl over that too.

  62. wow . im so excited that they are going to continue it .. ive been searching every website to see if it will continue or stay.after school ,in the school librays . everywhere .WOW !!! im just so happy that are continuing it because i had a horrible week and hearing good news really cheer me up especially abot the mortal instruments . but they need to continue . i saw the movie in american in the summer in vacation ,and as soon as i got back i started telling all mu friends about it .at first they thought i was weird always talking about but then they saw the creative world of imagination and shadowhunters and loved it . ive been trying to tell everyone i know to help . this is what got me to start reading books . this might be just a book series and a movie but it changed my reading levels and my grades espically my schedule and ,me

  63. If they don´t make more movies of this awesome sage,it will be stupid, this is one of my favorite sages, my friends one time said that twilight compared to this, was a shit, and i think the same. This sage has not just a future has all the nice things action, romance, danger and i loved the actors . I am crazy for this sage.

  64. I read the book way before the movie came out, and I was disappointed by some aspects of it. I was most upset by the actor that played Magnus Bane (Godfrey Gao). He lacked Magnus' flair and outgoing/fun attitude that they describe in the book. I also was disappointed but the ending, in which Clary gives Valentine a fake mortal cup. They changed this from the book, in which Clary is FORCED to give Valentine the REAL mortal cup. Aside from these things, I enjoyed seeing the characters from a series which I love so much come to life. Can't wait for City Of Ashes!

  65. Oh, I'm so glad!!!! Ever since I saw City of Bones I'm completely hooked! I'm so gonna start reading the books now! Best news ever!!!! Also, I think this is better than Twilight and The Hunger Games!!!:D I became a HUGE fan of Jaime Campbell Bower, he is the perfect Jace:) Also, don't change any of the characters, I don't think I could watch the next movie if they change even one character!!!!!! Can't wait for City of Ashes!!!!!

  66. please make more of these movies..and do not change up the cast..jamie campbell bower is jace
and that would be a huge mistake to change up the leads.

  67. I'm a big fan of the Mortal Instruments whole collection. And I'm waiting for heavenly fire to come out soon. They have to have sequels for the Mortal Instruments. I actually starting reading the books after I watched the movie. It actually makes a person get interested in reading the books. So they should definitely make all the books into a movie. The characters in The Mortal Instruments is so awesome and its a pleasure to watch them come to live played by an amazing cast they put together. Cant wait for City of Ashes.

  68. I agree with Anna; try to make the movies like the books. Most movies based off books try to make it so that viewers can watch and not have to have read the books but that's where your wrong. Most viewers will be people who are interested in the books. Make them long enough and incorporate as much as possible. People like the books bc of whats in them. Dont take it out! Make it longer!

  69. Major fan of the whole Shadowhunter series but the problem with the movie was that it wasn't long enough to incorporate many of the important scenes. So what if it costs more to make it longer? The longer, the more it will be like the book, and the more money you'll make. Keep the movies like the books to get the same fan base and positive reaction.

  70. I love the Mortal Instruments series! I've read the Infernal Devices, all of the Mortal Instruments books besides the sixth, which comes out in May, and The Bane Chronicles. I'm a major fan of the whole series and companion books & it means so much to see the characters come to life! Cant wait to see this movie :)))

  71. Please keep making the series to movies it will be awesome to see all the books come to life I read all of the books except for the sixth one yall did a awesome job making the City of Bones .

  72. Luv it! Luv it! Luv it! Just bought the DVD, have all the books so far, cant wait for the last one, hope it turns out well, and cant wait for the movie! So glad they are moving on with it! Huge fan!

  73. i hope they don't cancel, The City Of Ashes, i want to know what happens with Clary and Jace, i can't believe they are actually brothers and sisters, it would be funny if they weren't actually brothers and sisters!! they look so cute together!!! Don't Cancel It! i love the book so far can't wait to see what happens next!!

  74. This is an amazing book series, and could become a larger than life movie series. They messed up not getting the info out there that it was being made into a movie and then when it was going to be released. It is a darker series, so they are going to have to target the right type of people. I am happy to know that they are making City of Ashes into a movie and I really hope this one does better because this is one of the best series I have read in a long time. I enjoyed so much more than hunger games and twilight.

  75. I have read all of the books EXCEPT book 6 which doesn't come out till May and I LOVE this series. Especially since it's getting sooo exciting. They CANT stop making the mortal instruments series. Can't wait for city of ashes! BTW when DOES city of ashes come out???

  76. i had read all the books and the clockwork devices i even read the bane chronicles and i loved every page i was so excited to know they were making city of bones and i was,nt disappointed they did miss out quite alot but understandable to a certain extent the characters were briliant i love JRM as valentine and JBC as jace i cant wait for city of ashes i am hoping thy will do them all i think if u have read the books u could be disappointed to some extent but u could say that about twilight or any book really they just cant fit it all in i say give it a chance i,m sure u will enjoy it as much as me

  77. I vaguely remember the advertisements for this movie back in the summer , had completely forgotten about it until i received a "movie on us" coupon from my cable provider needless to say this was the movie i purchased absolutely LOVED it found out that this was a series of books bought them all and read them all in a little under two weeks. I simply could not put them down. I am so glad that they are going ahead with City of Ashes hopefully the screen writers will stick to the book instead of trying to rewrite for the screen there is no need the books stand strong on their own… Hopefully all 6 books will make it to the big screen and the cast will stay in it for the long haul too….Jamie Campbell Bower was a perfect choice for Jace (in spite of what some critics say) cant wait to see who they cast in "later" parts as this series if given the chance should become one to remember…..Keep on going with it guys give it the chance it deserves!!!!!

  78. I did enjoy this movie-credits rolling now. I took so much from this movie and several comments already say what I would. I just need to add one seriously highly recommended suggestion(personal opinion). Please, if you're going to stick with Jamie as Jace, tell the dull nearly emotionless faced man to take a dang shower. Bit distracting when that's all I could think every scene he was in.

  79. I Absolutly love these books, however I was disappointed with the movie. They jumped from scene to scene way too quick. They left out important parts. My biggest disappointment was the casting. Jamie fans please don't hate me after I voice my opinion. Jace is suppose to be this perfect, beautiful masculin guy. Although I love Jamie he's just not that guy. Also jace is sullen and sarcastic, Jamie just wasn't convincing. I really felt that jaces character should have been played by someone else. It just ruined it for me. I will watch the next movies only because I do love the books. I just really hope they rethink some of the characters and they don't screw up the seelie court scene.

  80. If they're wondering what they did wrong with the first movie, it was that they didn't include some of the most important parts like when Simon turns into a rat or when Hodge's curse is dropped and he traps Clary in a box after she almost gets her eyes torn out by Hugo then almost takes her head off but Luke saves her. If they wanted to attract a better audience then they should stick to the story line and only leave out small parts not the greater demon part. I know money is always an issue, but if they want to make more of it then they have to step it up and throw all they have into making it the best that it can be. But despite that I still loved it and can't wait for the second movie.

  81. After watching the Mortal Instruments, I now appreciate all other first films in a series that take the time to tell the story. The film didn't concentrate enough on the characters and their stories. It jumped from scene to scene too quickly as well. It got off to a really good start and the guy playing JC did the book justice. I personally feel Valentine should have been older, the werewolves spectacular battle towards the end of the book didn't live up to expectations and neither did the battle with the greater demon. They changed it too much and if they do a sequ they should flesh out the other characters and stick closer to the books storyline.

  82. I love the book the movie.. I'm 36 about to be 37.. I am in love with it.. For someone like me who has fibromyalgia and can't get around much.. This book takes me to a place that I feel like I can put myself and not be in pain.. I'm driving my teens crazy watching it.. Please keep going and fire who ever did the marketing.. I saw it at the video store and thought I will give it a try.. Now I have two copy's ( one living room and one in the bedroom) lol..
I have 2 teens and a 6 month old and let me tell you my baby is already a fan.. Lol

  83. Omgs the mortal instruments was a wicked film I can't stop watching it I watch it every day I'd love to meet the cast I'm Jamie Campbell Bower's biggest fan I love him he amazing.x

  84. I loveeeeeeeeeeeeee the movie! And i loveeeeeeeeeee the books. I can't believe people didn't enjoy this movie. I was so excited to hear they would make a movie about 'City of Ashes', so I'm shocked they would cancel it! But also reliefed to read that they reconsider the production. I'm so excited to see this movie and I hope they make a movie for every book Cassandra Clare wrote.

  85. I loved this movie!! So glad to hear they are continuing with the sequel. I had never even heard of the movie until it came out on dvd. It definitely needs better marketing. I have just recently purchased the books and started reading them, definitely a page turner. I am 41 years old and my family and I ALL loved this movie.

  86. Jamie Bower was fantastic in the City of Bones. This series was ten times better than twilight series. As a huge fan of the series, I was thrilled to see the first film in theaters and I will be equally exited to see the second installment. Jamie Bower is a fablous actor and he would have been a better choice as Edward Cullen in the twilight series than Robert Padision. Hes clearly loaded with talent and very handsome. As a huge fan of Mr. Bower, I can't wait to see more of his movies.

  87. I love this series. I can't wait to see the next movie immortal insturments city of ashes in theaters. I hope to see the same characters return in the next film. Jamie bower was wonderful and again I can't wait to see the second installment of this series.

  88. Love this series! Will definitely go see next movie, opening weekend this time. I love to see books I love come to life! I was disappointed when I heard they weren't making the sequel, I think they made the right choice to go on with the production! Hope they keep everyone the same! Clary, Jace, Simon, Luke, Magnus, and Jocelyn especially!

  89. Huge fan of the books, i loved the movie even though the story was messed with something terribly. But Jaime Bower's performance held everything together. I don't see how this movie has not out shown Twilight, they had two of the worst actors starring in that film. I feel if this next movie is done right and trys to play closer to the books, then it will be a huge success, and blow glittering vampires out of the water!

  90. I saw the movie with out even knowing that there were books an I loved it I read all 5 books in 15 days I love it. I really hope for more of the film

  91. I loved the books. I already ordered the next book. I loved watching in in theaters with ny daughter. I want to see it comlete in theaters asbwell. There ,6 books it us a very good story. Its a twist on the fanacy world.

  92. I Love the books on the 4th one! I didnt even know they had made it a movie the marketing was so bad finally I seen a poster it was coming to DVD and I was so excited but I would have loved to see it on the big screen! Please keep making them the books just get better as the series goes so I'm sure the movies would too.

  93. I hope the franchise does continue. I had not read the books and only saw the movie because my friend was a fan. The marketing was poor and I didn't think I would enjoy it. But, I LOVED it! Great cast. Saw it twice in 3 days (and read the first book inbetween). Would have seen it again, but it wasn't in the cinema for very long. Instantly enjoyed both the book and the movie more than Twilight.
Using a comparison to Twilight as a marketing ploy was a poor choice and would have alienated a lot of potential fans. There was an overkill of Twilight (and the general Vampire genre) by the time the marketing for City of Bones began. They needed to market it as being DIFFERENT to Twilight; in the same way that Hunger Games, Twilight and Harry Potter are all different and great in their own way. Fingers crossed that DVD sales will prove positive enough to continue (or the fans annoy the heck out of the production company until it gets done).

  94. This made my day :D!!!!♡♥♡
The 1st movie was awesome. Marketing the movie wasn't done well. Very dissapointed because this series has potential in becoming an awesome franchise 😀
Just finished City of Lost Souls. Can't wait for Heavenly Fire next year.

  95. Come get the city of ashes made then glass I loved the first film clary and jace are ment for each I well wanna see when the truth comes out get a move on lol

  96. The first film was awesome! They did a terrible job of marketing it though. I just happened upon it as I was bored that day, and was pleasantly surprised. The film should have done much, much, better with better, and strategic marketing. I'm glad they are looking at that for the launch of this second film.
The characters Robert Sheehan, Jamie Bower, Kevin Zegers, Johnathan Meyers and Godfrey Gao in the first film are breathtakingly beautiful, (longing for an entirely different kind of film with these characters… alas…*sigh*… and, moving along…) . As well as the very pretty Lilly Collins, Lena Heady and Jemima West… it was an adventurous, fun, sexy and mysterious film that should have done better in the box office had it had better marketing.
I earnestly hope that Sigourney Weaver stays with the new film. She is Amazing! Any part she plays in the new film, I know will make things incredible! She has some of the best moments in film! I look forward to seeing her in this and many future films.
I also hope to see more of Jared Harris. He is new to me from the Sherlock Holmes films, and he is fascinating to watch. I enjoyed watching his character in City of Bones, fall from dignity into ruin, and pick himself up again and redeem himself. It is weird how well he plays the genius professor/evil bad boy…
I'm looking forward to the new film and I expect it will do better this time around.

  97. I am surprised this didn't do better. It was every bit as good if not better then the Twilight series. I love the movie and books and eager to praise both. I can't wait until the next movie.

  98. I loved the books and cannot wait for the next movie. I saw the first movie at least 5 times. I cant wait for the last book to come out. Keep em coming:)

  99. Loved the books…read all five of them in a week….and thought the movie was fantastic saw it twice within two days…and my family members who had not read the book and seen the movie loved it…I am excited for the next movie….I feel like they should not compare it to the hunger games, twilight, and harry potter. I am a fan of all of these series along with this one …but the fan base is not the same and I think that they should just advertise the movie and stay true to the book. When I saw the movie I would have been content for the movie to just continue it did not seem like I was sitting there for the full 2 hours it had felt like half an hour had passed….Im excited to see how the next ones turn out!

  100. Don't be fooled lovers and haters both. The digital release date is in ONE MONTH and the DVD/Blu-Ray is in 6 WEEKS. Desperate last minute attempt to boost their sales. Mosckowicz, who is highly untrustworthy…dont' forget he kept saying how everything was fine, albeit under expectations, prior to announcing the sequel was delayed. Also he told THR and Variety that it made 100 million at the boxoffice but neither BoxOfficeMojo nor The-Numbers have it anywhere near that…it's at 81 million and 75 million respectively. I'm assuming he's rounding 81 million up to 100 million to make it sound better.

Here's where he finally admits some truth, telling Variety this, but not the Hollywood Reporter:

“It is an ongoing discussion that we are having, and it is not done. We haven’t made a final decision. But we will only move forward — and we plan to move forward — when we feel we are going to get it right,” Moszkowicz said.

Although the intention is to shoot the film sometime next year, it is not carved in stone.

“That is the plan, but it is not a given,” Moszkowicz said. “We believe in that franchise, and we would like to do that, but we need to get it right.”

  101. really happy .Read the books on back on the film:-)love them.Im46!!
Hope this time around they stay in cinemas longer than the week in showed in Maidstone and not at all in scarborough!!that would help figures!
Suggest they dont market it as the new "twightlight"which i did enjoy but its not much like that franchise,it proberly alienated alot of people who may have enjoyed the film but didnt like twilight and aliented "Twighlight "hardcore fan who didnt like the comaparison! And finally stay as true a possible to the spirit of the books.Peter Jackson got that bang on when doing LOTR :-)Get a great script writter and get Clare to input her feeling like JK did for HP franchise!Loved the casting espiecally Lily 🙂 Full steam ahead!!yah

  102. What a perfect birthday present this little piece of news is. Leave the cast as it is but please stick closer to the plot this time! Screenwriters shouldn't change major plot points Jessica Postigo. (for the marketing guys I'm 41 today and have read all 5 of the series that are released and will be reading book 6.)

  103. This is the best news I've heard all week! I absolutely love this series! My husband even really enjoyed it! He went willingly to see it with me, where as with Twilight… Lets just say it was like putting a cat in a sink filled with water.. Hehe.
