Got a Tip?

Kenneth Branagh Offically Doing ‘Thor,’ Lead Role Yet To Be Cast

When MTV.com caught up with British Thespian Kenneth Branagh this weekend at the “Valkyrie” junket, the Shakespearean actor clarified the rumors surrounding his involvement with the big-screen adaptation of the Marvel comic, “Thor.”

“I am directing “Thor” or “The Mighty Thor’ as you might like to call it.” When asked what drew him to the project, other than the massive pay-check, the actor/director said, “To work on a story about one of the immortals, Gods, extraordinary beings, inter-dimensional creatures. There’s science fiction and science fact and fantasy all woven into one. It’s based on Norse legends which Marvel sort of raided in a brilliant way.”

Concerning the subject of what actor will be lucky enough to land himself the role, Branagh refused to give even a hint, “There’s been lots of talk [about casting] — I sound like a politician — but we are too early at this stage. We’re getting the story and the visual effects together and all of that is very exciting. Someone sensational is going to play the part but it is early days.”

Branagh usually sticks to traditional epic dramas, so it will be interesting to see how he handles a big-time studio comic book adaptation that lacks long, drawn out soliloquies.
