Like the French cinematic equivalent of Voltron, three of the country’s most famed actresses are joining forces for a project that has us sold on name recognition alone. That the material is promising is a nice bonus.
Mélanie Laurent, Audrey Tautou and Bérénice Bejo will star in “Eternité” (aka “Eternity“) an adaptation of the French novel “L’élégance des Veuves” by Alice Ferney. “The Scent Of Green Papaya” and “Norwegian Wood” director Tran Anh Hung will be making his French language feature debut with the film, adapting the book himself, with story centering “around the theme of motherhood and three women who face up to tragedy and unhappiness with dignity,” with the tale spanning multiple generations of women across the 19th and 20th century.
So period drama sadness with these actresses and this director? Okay, we’re in. Production begins this summer. [ScreenDaily/Allocine]
