So David Fincher is a self-proclaimed, “asshole,” we’ve agreed and moved on, cool. But there happens to be more from that Guardian article.
For all the revisionists and Fincher obsessives that insist, “Hey, ‘Alien 3’ is actually pretty good,” even the director thinks you’re dead wrong. “No one hated it more than me; to this day, no one hates it more than me,” he said noting that his struggles and labors on the film were an uphill climb adding to his detest for the project (and plus it’s the first film he didn’t have final cut on — you know he hates that).
Guardian: Have you grown to like it since then, “Alien 3”?
Fincher: God, no!
And get this: the “director’s cut” version of the film that came out on DVD a few years back, that fans proclaim is solid proof of Fincher’s genius when he’s working unencumbered from studio meddling? Well, it’s not even his work.
Guardian: So that alternate cut on the DVD special edition whatever it is – that’s not yours?
Fincher: I don’t know who did it, I’ve never seen it, I can’t comment on it.
Zong! Five minutes from now Amazon’s used market is going to be flush with these puppies.
The Quadrilogy box set makes it clear that none of the directors endorse the extended versions therein.
The director’s cut of that movie should have been the real movie – whether or not Fincher endorsed it. There are scenes that were deleted which explain things that otherwise leave a viewer asking, “Where the fuck did that come from?”
im pretty sure that cut of the movie is called "the assembly cut" so its not like false advertising. in the end this article seems pretty pointless
Alien 3 is great. I don't care what Fincher thinks of it. The theatrical cut is superior to the bloated, silly extended cut. If you want a bad movie, rent Alien Resurrection. And it was never referred to as a Director's Cut.
Fox needs to let Fincher take his film back and edit it the way he intended. This is bullshit that a studio would take a film from a gifted director and make it their own. We fans of the franchise and David Fincher deserve to see his vision and not this "assembly cut" that Finch had nothing to do with. Now that Fincher is a bankable director, he should be able to go back and show us his vision he intended with Alien 3. And NO interference from Fox at all.
Fincher is wrong. Alien 3 is a work of genius and if he hates it, it has more to do with his headaches in filming it than the actual film.
Alien Resurrection was good ! And lot's of aliens fucking shit up. stop bitching obviously miss Weaver approved .
