Godzilla

We are sometimes a curmudgeonly bunch here at The Playlist, especially when it comes to the tedious onslaught of summer movies. But we’re not cold, heartless bastards who don’t know how to have fun, and we have to say, we’re pretty damn stoked for “Godzilla.” Tonight a new trailer has been unleashed, and yeah, we’re still pretty fucking stoked.

While the monster has stayed mostly hidden in the promos so far, he’s unveiled in all his monstrous glory here in this viral trailer boasting a ton of new footage. And what can we say? Gareth Edwards looks to be turning in something aiming for epic and terrifying, and with a helluva cast (Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson) it looks like an A-game effort all around. And you know what? Even with the monster now in view, we don’t feel like anything is spoiled.

So check it out below, followed by another featurette that might have accidentally given up a secret from the movie? Click here to find out. “Godzilla” roars like thunder on May 16th.

  1. Looks amazing. But no more footage please until the movie is released. Let people go into the movie theater and watch the magic unfold. Any much more and they'll give it all away.

  2. I just…I mean…I freakin' can't. I cannot get my hopes up again, only to have them dashed. I've been duped too many times by great marketing campaigns (Where the Wild Things Are, anyone?). This one would be so disheartening. The second I heard Gareth Edwards was directing, my anticipation meter shot to 10. "Monsters" is an extraordinary movie made by someone with deep gifts. So, here's to hoping those gifts are evident in "Godzilla."
