“Dracula Begins” was apparently taken so Universal Pictures decided to name its new “how Dracula got his groove” film, “Dracula Untold.” It’s the untold story, get it? Maybe it’s like a prequel to the days when he was a young doctor and then came across some Nosferatu who bit him and yadda, yadda, yadda. Pardon our cynicism, but most prequel like “this is how it actually happened” stories tend to be a little dull, but here’s to hoping I guess. The cast is at least decent.
Directed by first-time feature-length filmmaker Gary Shore (you can see some of his work here), “Dracula Untold” stars Luke Evans as the eventual Drac, Vlad the Impaler, and the movie co-stars Sarah Gadon, Diarmaid Murtagh, Dominic Cooper and Samantha Barks.
One does get a sense that Hollywood is trying to “make Luke Evans happen,” and while we like him a lot and think he’s a good actor, like Colin Farrell, who they keep trying to do the same with, I’m not so sure he’s suited for the usually boring leading man roles that they’re trying to square peg him in.
Here’s the “official synopsis,” in quotes because it’s so damn short and flimsy.
Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6, Immortals) stars in Dracula Untold, the origin story of the man who became Dracula. Gary Shore directs and Michael De Luca produces the epic action-adventure that co-stars Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, Diarmaid Murtagh and Samantha Barks.
“Dracula Untold” hits theaters later this year on October 17. For the love of god, no speed-ramping, please (because you kinda know that’s what the trailer is gonna be full of). New teaser posters and photos below.
Well, at least they didn't borrow anything from Batman Begins or anything…the posters look identical.
