Got a Tip?

McG Interested In Robert Patrick for Next ‘Terminator’ Film Should One Ever Happen

In his endless quest to get every actor that ever performed in the ‘Terminator ‘franchise to re-appear in his films, McG told Fearnet that he has spoken to Robert Patrick about the possibility of a role in the next ‘Terminator’ film should one ever get greenlit. Patrick played the T-1000 in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.”

“I talk to Robert Patrick with great regularity,” McG said. “It’s interesting – I was [thinking of] a through line. I’ll bounce it off of you guys: I like the idea in a prospective next picture that you meet Robert Patrick the way he looks today, and he’s a scientist that’s working on improving cell replication so we can stay healthier and we can cure juvenile diabetes and all these things that once again sound like good ideas — and once again live as an idealized expression of ourselves. So imagine seeing a sixty-year-old Robert Patrick and knowing, ‘Holy shit! That’s gonna be the T-1000 – who comes back perfect, lean and the whole thing.’ I haven’t concluded that, but Robert and I had dinner the other night and talked about it. I made two movies with Robert Patrick, so I like him very much. And now he’s very heavily into motorcycle riding. He’s a really serious guy.”

The director is aware that any hopes of a sequel rest on the the support of fans. “But the audience has to say we need another one,” he continued. “Let Memorial Day come. If we all get together and sit at a table like this and you guys give me a kick in the ass and say, ‘Go make another one,’ I’ll deliver [Christian] Bale and we’ll get it done.”

McG also has also spoken with Arnold Schwarzenegger about the possibility of appearing in the latest film. “Arnold saw the movie two nights ago,” said McG, “and I’m set to see him shortly. We’re gonna discuss what he wants to do, and to what degree he wants to be involved.” When asked if the Governator would make a return to the franchise, McG said, “Don’t know yet. But either way I wanted Arnold to see the movie. I want Jim [Cameron] to see the movie. I come from a place of maximum respect.”

McG is still talking to Linda Hamilton about a voiceover role, but nothing is confirmed so far.

We’re all happy to have a chance to see the next installment of “Terminator: Family Reunion.” We just hope that McG isn’t so caught up in trying to create ways to introduce familiar faces that he forgets the reason we would come back to the story. We want to know what happens to John Connor in the future, that doesn’t mean that we have to see Edward Furlong in a cameo to achieve that goal.

Here’s the new “Terminator Salvation” trailer in case you missed somehow missed it. We’re underwhelmed, but the geeks are obviously flipping their shit (easy, easy targets). The song, btw is Nine Inch Nails’ “The Day The Earth Went Away,” and it too feels too obvious, too testosterone-y and too blockheaded. And god, can it get any more melodramatic? “Noooooo!” “What are you!?”

  1. If you thought that you were human and learned that you actually weren’t I think that “Noooooo!” is an acceptable response to such a thing.
Also, what the hell is wrong with being melodramatic? Life is full of melodrama, so why not have it in movies as well?
