British actor Matthew Goode, probably best known as this point for his portrayal of Ozymandias in “Watchmen,” has joined Ricky Gervais’ “Cemetery Junction.” Goode will play Mike, a go-getter dating the boss’ daughter presumably from the advertising agency. [THR]
Is Joseph Gordon-Levitt biting the hand that feeds? In a recent Esquire interview, the up and coming actor spoke of his thoughts on the current state of Hollywood: “In case you haven’t noticed, most of what Hollywood puts out is crap anyway… here’s the new art of the twenty-first century: the art of curating, that art of plucking all the good stuff from a superabundance of crap. And then, when everything’s online, you can check out the recommendations of people, of curators, you trust. On any given night, your chances of being able to watch a good movie will be higher. Why should you watch something that’s not great? People’s expectations should be higher. All of us have to man up a little and be like, Okay, we’re not going to see any more shitty movies. Enough is enough.”

Matteo Garrone’s critically acclaimed organized crime film “Gomorrah” has swept the David di Donatello Awards. It won best picture, director, screenplay, producer, editor, sound and original song. Everything it lost pretty much went to Paolo Sorrentino’s “Il Divo” which also took home 7 awards. [Variety]
Shia Labeouf is taking the somewhat passé move of moving into directing. He recently directed a music video for New York based indie-rapper Cage’s song “I Never Knew You.” Cage is of course the rapper that Labeouf dreams of setting up a biopic with himself as the lead. Antonio Banderas is set to star in the neo-noir detective story “The Big Bang.” Banderas will play an L.A. private detective who’s search for a missing stripper leads to him to the New Mexico desert, where he finds a trail of bodies and contends with a brutal Russian boxer, three LAPD detectives and an aging billionaire looking to recreate the Big Bang. For everyone’s sake, we hope they’re going for campy. [Variety]
On a recent television appearance, director Jerry Bruckheimer brought along with him the first look at his upcoming film “Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time.” The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina. We think this exchange personifies the film; Interviewer: “And you mentioned Jake Gyllenhaal, one of Hollywood’s hot young stars right now, what does he bring to the role of the Prince of Persia?” Bruckheimer: “Well he’s very handsome, and he is in fantastic shape.” [/Film]
