Hide away a film for long enough and curious minded film bloggers will always become hyper curious as to why. Generally, it’s because a film is not good and or fairly problematic which seems to have been the case with this one, at least at one point.
One thing’s for sure, though. The poster is super-generic and does not look good. It screams middle-of-the-road love story film and the sci-fi angle hopefully makes it more interesting than simply that.
Here’s a synopsis:
The Time Traveler’s Wife stars Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana as a couple dealing with one of the most difficult problems in a relationship — they’re constantly separated. No, this isn’t a story of long distance love. Instead, Henry (Eric Bana) is afflicted with a rare genetic disorder which causes him to time travel with no control. His wife, Clare (Rachel McAdams), wants nothing more than to make their relationship survive despite his disappearances.
Directed by Robert Schwentke (“Flightplan”) this trailer feels much more chick-lit flick than we hoped, but it’s possible that’s just the way New Line is marketing this thing and or its entirely possible this is simply exactly what the film is. The cheesy anthem-rock song doesn’t help either. Anyone know what it is? There’s no way in hell we would ever recognize it, never listening to music like that on any regular basis [ed. It’s “Broken” by Lifehouse, ewww]. If there’s umm, a less chick-flicky version of that trailer, we’d love to see it and we hate to say that because we hate to come across as the man-child hordes that pervade the Internet, but really this trailer is about as good as the poster. “The Time Traveler’s Wife” shot in Toronto back in September 2007, and the post-production process seems to have been problematic which why this its taken forever to reach the screens.
To be fair though, New Line was also absorbed by Warner Bros. last year which in of itself could have delayed the film up to a year. Considering how long it’s been it almost certainly a least threw the picture on the back burner.
Mychael Danna, who’s also co-written the music to Terry Gilliam’s ” The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” has written the score. Arliss Howard and Ron Livingston co-star and the film is due for release on August 14. [poster via IVillage/ RopeofSilicon]
Oh god, that's a Lifehouse song. How embarassing.
Haha, you knew it was a Lifehouse song.
looks AWFUL!
You should read the book (isn't it on your bookshelf?), because it's great. It's not chick-lit at all; it's a great story about the relationship these two people create under very unusual, non-linear circumstances. It's sad and romantic and sexy and I recommend it to anyone.
That said, I'm hoping this trailer is just something they whipped up to appeal to the ladies. However, the time traveling effect looks pretty bad, and there's little sense of how tragic the story is.
Yeah, it's on my shelf, how do you know that?? 😉 I have heard it's great, but the trailer does look bad.
The song in the trailer is Broken by Lifehouse
If the director has managed to effectively capture and elaborate the destiny thing that kept taking Henry back to Clare and Alba…….
They give away the Alba thing, that pissed me off, because you NEVER see that coming in the book! Ron Livingston shouldn't be Gomez, the Ingrid plotline SHOULD be in the movie.
Have no idea what you're talking about re: alba thing, but maybe that's for the best, i too need surprises some times.
This was not chick-lit at all. it was a truly amazing book, even though at the time I had no idea it would be. The movie looks to be even better. I'm only worried that it seems like they might be condensing some plot points for time/understanding and it looks like they've changed the ending too… But still, put your reservations aside, this will be an intriguing movie and definitely worth seeing.
I am obsessed with this book. I saw the trailer on tv and right ahead I had to read the book. I'm so in love with it. I cannot wait for it to come out on Aug 14. And for Astrud Sands comment, I think it was a great choice to put on Lifehouse song. Anyways, I'm not done with the book yet but I'll finish it. When I do, I'll re-read the book all over again. I'm not a big fan of Sci-Fi stuff but this romantic story line is just perfect.
looks good to me
There is nothing wrong with Lifehouse. They have some very good songs, including this one.
My wife and I loved the movie. I read the trailer comments. No opinion on the trailer, but the movie was great.
Strange as this sounds, I enjoyed the song young Henry's mother sang throughout the movie, but I can't find her version anywhere. Not my style of music (rock) but she had a beautiful voice and I'd love to hear her sing it again. They should post that song here.
What on earth is your problem with Lifehouse?
