Or BFFs Spike Jonze and Kanye West Will Make Short Films Together For The End Of Time
Spike Jonze and Kanye West love each other. They have made 4,ooo music videos together (ok, two, three? we’re losing count) and in September via iTunes they will release, “We Were Once A Fairytale,” the long-discussed short film that will debut on September 8 (god, that’s a pretty gay title).
Last time we wrote, “Plot-wise, the film chronicles a surreal, fictional outing by West at a club that includes the likes of sexual hallucinations, the vomiting and bleeding of rose pedals and a furry demon-like rodent that derives from Kanye’s stomach and commits the act of hari kari. And we thought their last collaboration, the music video for West’s “Flashing Lights,” was weird.”
From most accounts — and here’s one, because the L.A. Shorts Film Festival got an early peek at the film — it’s not just an extended music video and it better not be, cause nothing gets on our nerves more than a project dubbed a “short film,” that’s essentially just a longer form version of marketing your commercial, errr, sorry music video.
The Daily Swarm says, “The film features the song “See you in my Nightmares” from 808s and Heartbreaks, remixed and pretty severely tweaked by Spike Jonze’s brother and N.A.S.A.‘s Squeak E. Clean (Sam Spiegel).”
Extended music video alert! [Vulture/We Love You So]
