Got a Tip?

Jason Schwartzman Uses ‘Yo Teach’ Voice To Narrate ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ Featurette?

Jason Schwartzman does his best Mr. Rogers story-time voice in this featurette for Wes Anderson’s “Fantastic Mr. Fox.” Jason, don’t you know it’s condescending to talk down to children, we mean, youthful hipster adults? Sounds like you can hear some of Alexandre Desplat’s score in the background (Mothersbaugh-esque, really) and Schwartzman boasts that the audio recording of all the voices — people like George Clooney, himself, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray and Meryl Streep — were recorded on location. It’s as if we’re supposed to give him and Wes a the prize from the bottom of a cracker jack box for that one. Congratulations? Also, we’re not sure it’s intentional or not, but Schwartzman’s “did you know, children?” voice here sounds like he’s appropriating the same voice from his “Yo, Teach” role from “Funny People.”

There was also a lot of back and forth at one point as to whether Michael Gambon (a small role in ‘Life Aquatic’) was actually a voice in ‘Fox’ or not, but Apple trailers confirms he’s part of the cast. Jarvis Cocker was said to have recorded a banj0-laden song for the film, and it sounds like you can hear strains of that one too.

  1. Shit, I think I'm finally over Wes Anderson. Rushmore was my favorite movie in high school and freshman year, but now I just don't give a shit about anything he does.

Wes is gonna end up like Weezer. Producing shitty work that nonetheless has a lot of hype behind it because his earlier stuff was such a crucial part of our adolescence.
