The CD/DVD set of Rufus Wainwright’s concert film, “Milwaukee at Last!!!” is of particular interest because it was shot by legendary cinema verite documentarian Albert Maysles, or at least the still-rocking 82-year-old filmmaker lead the team of cinematographers who assisted him in shooting the concert. Maysles latest documentary, “Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!” made its world premiere at the New York Film Festival last weekend and we were in attendance. The 27-ish-minute doc is essentially outtake concert footage from the “Gimmie Shelter” documentary shot at Madison Square Garden and features brief appearances by Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. It’s an interesting belated curio for Stones fans and is on the upcoming CD/DVD re-release of the band’s seminal live album, Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!, but really isn’t necessarily mandatory viewing. The disgruntled older man (likely in the Stones demo when he was our age) sitting next to us scoffed with, “that’s it?,” annoyance. It was rather amusing.
