Got a Tip?

Mel Gibson Says He’s “Too Old” For ‘Mad Max 4,’ But Does Say He Has Talked To George Miller Recently

It’s already been confirmed (it seems) that Tom Hardy (“Bronson”) and Charlize Theron both seem to be on board for “Mad Max: Fury Road,” George Miller’s resurrection of the post-apocalyptic ‘Mad Max’ franchise that kicked off his career.

But what about Mel Gibson the original road warrior? Miller has said several times he thought that Gibson was too old for the role (even though he came quite close to pulling off ‘Mad Max 4’ in 2003), hence going with younger actors like Hardy and Theron. So no Gibson at all? No cameo? What does Gibson himself think of this decision? He seems very ok with it.

In a recent interview with the Australian Herald Sun, Gibson seems to agrees with Miller about the age concern. “[The ‘Mad Max’ role?] Not with me, I don’t think, man, I’m a bit old and long in the tooth for that number.”

Though conspiracy theorists may want to note. When Gibson is asked about “Mad Max 4” he says, “Oh gosh, I don’t know what he’s up to,” meaning Miller (and the interviewer says he sounds “perhaps a little unconvincing”) but adds earlier in the interview.

”I was just talking with George [Miller] the other day, he dropped me a line, so you kind of keep in touch with them and see what they’re up to,” he said. ‘[Mad Max] is not an obsession of mine. I figure if it’s great, you’ll end up seeing it, you know.”

Burrow into that wishful thinking, guys, why not…
