Got a Tip?

First Look: Megan Fox & Mickey Rourke In ‘Passion Play’; Rourke Throws Female ‘Wrestler’ Co-Stars Under The Bus

Here’s your first look at Mickey Rourke and Megan Fox on the set of Mitch Glazer’s “Passion Play” via EW.

The film, about a down-and-out trumpet player (Rourke) who seeks redemption through an angel in 1950s Los Angeles, has apparently just wrapped. And Rourke had some high praise for Megan Fox, calling her “probably the best young actress I’ve ever worked with.”

So wait, what about Rachel Evan Wood in Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler”? Is that a sideways dig at his co-star that he was once apparently romantically linked to (even though she denied it in a way that wasn’t exactly flattering to the star)?

Or are his comments below about Marisa Tomei, his love interest in the wrestling picture that got his career back on track? The exact question is, “The redemptive element of this film, combined with the love of a beautiful woman reminds me, at least a little bit, of The Wrestler. Is that something that resonates with you?” Rourke responds.

“Well, The Wrestler was quite tough. There wasn’t much chemistry there. Uh, that’s a whole other conversation. With Megan and I, there’s a lot of chemistry and a lot of respect. We’re both comfortable with each other. As far as the redemption is concerned, it’s almost fate. It’s not so much that my character is seeking redemption, it’s almost like it falls in my lap by accident. And I try and hold on to it as much as I can.”

Hmm, we’ll leave it to you, but not necessarily flattering to either of his female co-stars.

But back to “Passion Play,” Rourke says of his character, “He’s got a line in the movie, ‘I’ve messed up most of my life. I’ve only had two things: my music and my dope, but in the end it’s always been my dope.’ And I think the fact that he meets somebody that he has feelings for, who’s different like he is, gives him purpose.”

As for Megan Fox’s character. Is she really an angel? “She has wings,” Rourke said. “So she was sort of an oddity trapped in a carnival act. She’s been a prisoner her whole life, and she has no understanding of trust. She’s very vulnerable and delicate.”

Evidently, “Passion Plays” has been kicking around for a decade now, Mitch Glazer went to high school with Rourke and Glazer’s mother was the actor’s English teacher for two years. So when does this one come out? No word yet, but if it’s wrapped already, it could hit by the end of the year, no? Bill Murray also has a role (he replaced Toby Kebbell) and plays a menacing gangster, and Rhys Ifans will make an appearance as well. As far as we know, it’s an indie, but Fox and Rourke aren’t exactly B-listers so it could get picked up toute suite.

  1. considering how phenomenal ERW was in the wrestler (best supporting actress imo), and considering he said the exact same thing about ERW then, I would say this is rourke's attempt to get into fox's pantaloons

further considering fox's self professed daddy issues, he's got a shot~
