Got a Tip?

Jesus Lizard Frontman David Yow Auditioned For ‘A Serious Man,’ Subject Of Short Documentary

If there was ever a guy who could fill up a feature length documentary solely based on the merit of his amusingly abrasive-yet-goofy personality, it’d be David Yow. Instead, you can now watch a short twelve minute documentary profiling the frontman of the recently reunited noise rock band The Jesus Lizard and their ’80s precursor Scratch Acid. Though you won’t be able to experience one of Yow’s shirtless sweaty stagedives from the video, it’s still an enjoyable little watch. Yow reveals in the video that after the Jesus Lizard’s reunion tour, which ended last fall, he plans on “getting his reel” together to pursue an acting career. Up until this point, the 49-year old Yow has only had parts in small-time unknown indie flicks, but The Drone says that he recently read for a part in the Coen Brothers’ excellent “A Serious Man.” Obviously Yow didn’t get the part, but his brand of quirkiness would have been a great fit for the Coens’ style. Though we’d miss the stagedives, if Yow can bring any of his unique onstage personality to the big screen even for a few small character bits, we’d certainly look forward to it.
