Got a Tip?

Sony & Lionsgate No Longer Pursuing ‘Terminator,’ James Cameron Says Franchise ‘Soup’s Kind Of Been Pissed In’

We guess when you’re one of the the most financially successful directors of all time, you can say whatever the fuck you want.

Speaking with MTV yesterday, James Cameron was asked his thoughts on the current state of the “Terminator” franchise. While he had heard that original franchise writer William Wisher has treatments ready for two more sequels, after seeing where the series has been headed, Cameron is thinking what many of us are too: “From my perspective, it’s run its course and I don’t know what else to say that hasn’t been said. Plus, frankly… the soup’s kind of been pissed in a little bit by other filmmakers, so I don’t have any personal desire to go back to it. So I certainly wouldn’t want to be a dog in the manger and disallow my friends from making a little money off it. Why would I do that?”

But with Lionsgate and Sony now walking away from Terminator after their exclusive window on reaching a deal with current rights holder Pacificor ended, we’re not holding our breath at another sequel coming down the pike anytime soon. Warner Brothers got burned by “Terminator: Salvation” so we don’t see them returning to the well and this kind of material just really isn’t in Universal’s wheelhouse.

While we’re sure somebody will make something, we don’t see it being a priority at any studio’s right now. The series has been circling the drain for awhile and if somebody does come aboard we wouldn’t be opposed to this franchise starting over from scratch

  1. You just taught me that the expression I always thought was "coming down the pipe" is actually "coming down the pipe." You also taught me (or led me to learn) that "pike" is a shortening of "turnpike," meaning highway.

    Thank you.
